Hi there, I'm a 40k player who's about to deploy for 6 months. While I'm over seas I wanted to buy models to start a Fantasy army, but I don't know which I want to play. I'm interested in Tomb Kings or Warriors of Chaos mainly. I bought some orcs just to paint/model, but I don't think I'd enjoy playing them. If I went WoC I'd probably bulk out warriors and knights and aim for a sorcerer following Tzeentch to lead the charge or go for the blood thirsty followers of Khorne. I'm not too schooled on the TK, I just like the idea of a vast undead army (if you hadn't noticed by the name). Vampire Counts are out of the question considering a friend already plays them, and vampires bore me.

Sorry if y'all get tired of answering these "which army should I pick" questions, but I'm really interested and can't decide.

"War is not violence and killing, pure and simple; war is controlled violence, for a purpose. The purpose of war is to support your government's decisions by force. The purpose is never to kill the enemy just to be killing him but to make him do what you want him to do. Not killing... but controlled and purposeful violence."

I always say go for which army you like to model/paint. If you find yourself more drawn to the undead then get those and make the army list work for you.

If you don't fully like what your army is you'll always have that itch and before you know it you'll swap armies before you finish or worse yet, quit from frustration or burn out.

Do you enjoy painting? Then pick the one you think you'll enjoy painting more.

If not, I'd go WOC. Since you seem to want Warriors rather than Marauders, you won't be looking at a very large body count. I believe TK requires some fairly large units, which will be hard to cope with of you don't enjoy painting.

I think I'm going to go with the WoC, I enjoy painting, but I feel like I can put more detail on the Warriors, also I like the idea of them more. The TK sounds great, just not something I'm interested in at the moment.

I wanted to try Army Painter out as well, does anyone know how well it'd work on a blue Tzeentch army? I've only seen it used on red and darker colors, I'm sure I can find something.

after looking around and reading around a few websites, it seems that the WoC is used by a lot of people. I try not to let this bother me in my choice of forces, but I'd rather not be outcast because people think my army is a steam roller. I'm open to any suggestions beyond TK and WoC, I'd like to build a force that is manned by a wizard/mage/sorcerer and uses a lot of spell casting. My ideal core units would be defensive to protect my spell casters.

The only force that comes to mind at the moment would be the WoC decked out with Tzeentch icons and shields. Is there any other force out there that relies heavily on spell casters?

High Elves. While they're not completely reliant on magic it's a big part of the army. Both archers and spearmen work well as a bunker for a Mage too.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

Tzeentch woooow

Warriors are good times blue looks sweet and the ward saves are wonderful.

You dont need too many models and they are are beastly, my tz blocks have always pulled through for me.

Maybe even chosen star which isnt the only way to win but still fun.

Cool models they hit hard and live long.

The magic is great 5+ to casting which is awesome pandaemonium is an amazing spell (check the FAQ for it since the wording in the book is different) anyways amazing spell.
Combined with a support caster with infernal puppet and you are set to make bad things happen to your opponents casters

I personally dont run marauders and im fine with that haha warriors look much more impressive than marauders.

Knights not so great 300 ish points for 5 kind of harsh they are still sort of fun and look super awesome.

Disc all the way.

Also you will see blue and red work well together red with AHW and razor standard can take chunks out of hordes and everything.

Tk are pretty sweet too lots of new models and sick rules and magic bonus power dice and dice manipulation up the wazoo.

The tomb guard are awesome and if run properly they dont die ever.

The sphinx are pretty awesome too new models and a sweet army book lots of fun to play they do move some what slow tho with the lack of marching (the magic does help with that tho).

Chariots rock.

I hope this helps a little it might be all over the place but hey if it helps then its all good

Army painter I use the navy blue It looks amazing So worth it the dark tone dip works great too for rank and fire models.
I painted mine the same way as the lady from Girlpainting the one that did the khorne warriors just instead of being red i used blue looks fantastic oh just btw flat spray then gloss the armor and the warriors look super tz.

Best of luck
