So Im about to dive nose first into WoC as one of my friends is selling his and he is giving me a great deal. He has a Slaanesh themed WoC army. the question is, are WoC a good first army choice in WHFB and how exactly do they play? From what I've been told they are an elite army that has lots of close combat.

I too am about to start a WHFB army with the WoC, from my understanding they are very elite, with some very powerful core units. At any rate, any army you can get at a good deal is a good starting army

"War is not violence and killing, pure and simple; war is controlled violence, for a purpose. The purpose of war is to support your government's decisions by force. The purpose is never to kill the enemy just to be killing him but to make him do what you want him to do. Not killing... but controlled and purposeful violence."

They are alright.
They look better on paper than they are on the table, and I wouldn't describe them as fun, but.... they're alright.

WoC can be played as a competitive hard list but also can be a fun and bazaar style also. Also if you get a good deal go for it

WoC has some tough builds for them. They can really dish out some pain. My HE sometimes have trouble with them as a huge blob of Marauders is tough to deal with.

Fun and competitive are 2 very different things.

Well lets go like this I love the models hence why I chose the army.
They are fun for sure you can do lots of silly fun things.
Tz magic nurgle magic, horde of mok warriors AHW and razor standard etc.
They can be competitive just like pretty much any army just play them right.
You can make a completely silly list and win usually unless you play against super cheese in which case you can still win its all in the dice.
They do definitely look really good on paper since their stats are crazy awesome but yes they can fail and its sad when they do fail but it happens.
It can how ever be a cheap army that can be fun and not a push over.
Example 18 warriors can cost 300+ points lords are usually 300+ range each heroes around the 200 mark.
So ya.
