So, I've been getting to grips with my new airbrush and everything was going fine until I started spraying the white base over the grey primer. I have no idea what was happening but the white simply would not behave. Here are two of the warriors that I've based. This first one I am going to give another thin coat, more of a 'dusting' and I don't think its TOO thick, maybe just on the thicker side: The back definitely needs the 'dusting' This one was one of the first warriors I sprayed after I thought I'd gotten the white to behave. Would another thin coat to even things out rescue it or is it destined for the Fairy Power Spary?: Is the paint far too thick or can I rescue them? I'm not familiar with the finish of the Vallejo Model Air so it could be the lighting making it look thicker than it is, but I'm doubting my own eyes here and need an outside opinion. Two models are as thick as the one in the second image, the rest are at or about the thickness of the model in the first image. I've dismantled my airbrush and give it a bloody good OCD cleaning, I shook all of the bottles before I put them in to my bottle and I adjusted the pressure several times until I got the flow with the white to spray like the grey. Here's a warrior thats been primed with the grey, might help:

White is always tricky to airbrush (like it is to brush on).
My best suggestion is to prime the model a lighter grey.
Thin your white paint, and apply in several, very light coats, letting dry in between coats. Dont put too much pressure through the airbrush (I'd recommend less than 10 PSI)

Thanks for the advice!
What do you reckon to the models in the pictures above?
Rescue?

It doesn't look too bad, in my opinion - you can certainly rescue it.
Another option would be to strip and redo (but again, looking at the pics, it doesn't look too bad, the details do not seem clogged up)

Thanks mate.

Really appreciate the help mate, thanks.

Maybe I'm not seeing it right, but it looks like the white is pooling in the crevices, like a wash. It's not too thick... I think the problem might be that it is too watery. I think another coat a little less diluted would even it out.

Because of the mixture of White over grey primer the first image doesn't come out so well, theres actually very little pooling on the first model, but there is a fair bit on the second model.
I'm going to try to even it out, failing that I'll just strip it and start again.
I'll make sure I shake the bottle more next time. The consistency seems to have changed a little part way through. It's Vallejo Model Air so I've been using it straight out of the bottle and not messing with thinning it.
Thanks again dakkanauts, you always come to the rescue!

OOP Necron warriors for my OOP necron army project! Shameless self promotion: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/377208.page I have two of the three sculpts of the warrior (The other isn't technically a Necron. It's a RT 'Android') and both of the poses in those two sculpts. Ninja'd Some of the warriors I have are rogue trader I think but it's the models from the shift from 'androids' to proper necrons. All three in the pics are proper Necrons from after RT.

Are you sure that your paint is shaken properly? It looks too thin. I've had similar problems with overthinned whites. I have moved to using Golden Acrylics liquid titanium white.

With white, it does seem to come down to how long you shake the bloody bottle/can.
I'll shake the bugger like I would a can and see how it comes out. If the paint has separated a little bit I may have sprayed a layer of 'gloopy' paint and a layer of watery paint, hence why the consistency seemed to change on me...
I'm have another blast tomorrow so I'll update you all on my progress!
Thanks again Dakkanauts!

Try using a glass marble. They make them small enough to fit in the valejo bottles. Bloody red never mixes right either. I discovered my wifes marbles she puts in plants work spectacularly.

Thanks mate, I'll jump on eBay and get some. They'll be helpful to agitate the 'gloopier' paint stuck to the bottom of the bottle I reckon.
