Hi all,

My friend is planning an escaped prisoner traitor guard force (meanwhile his 'nemesis' does an anti-riot/anti-prisoner IG force). Anyway, I am planning a campaign that I will eventually finish writing and it will involve the escaped prisoners traitor guard force.

Anyway, I have searched a bit and could not find any 40K style prison terrain/scenery. I was hoping you could give me ideas or post pics if you can find any.

I've got a few ideas at the moment, I'll see if I can't get some drawings done for you.

I play:
Imperial Fists - 9000 pts
Tyranids - 1500 pts

GENERATION 9: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

I'd imagine instead of prisons they'd have labor camps. So have mines with shackles and pick axes thrown aside or perhaps a factory complex, oil rig, or some similar forced workplace.

riot guardsmen are enforcers you can order them from GW and i agree with nicholas. Can i point out a little problem most traitors are turned into servitors or killed.

Tali'Zorah: I appreciate what you're doing here, Shepard.
Commander Shepard: Well, I care deeply about the quarian people.
Tali'Zorah: It's good to be back on the Normandy.
Commander Shepard: Let me know if it's too quiet for you to sleep, and I'll find you someplace louder.
Tali'Zorah: Hmm.
Garrus Vakarian: Uh, I was there when you two had your thing, remember? Just get a room and work it out.

Sounds like a great idea. You've got me trying to recall anything about prisons i've read in the fluff and I can't. A 40k prison would be a great concept to explore, why hasn't anyone done it already?

No, they do have prisons, and you are also correct, they do employ the prisoners.

The options are:

a.) high security precinct. Look at any Prison movie you've seen around for ideas.

b.) Factory, pick a theme of what kind of factory, and then cover everything in barred wndows, and high-fences and barbwire around everything.

In either case, you will neeeeeeed an arbites building, I think the basilica+administratum can make this amiably.

Prisons?. . . Nah, they just shoot 'em! :-)

But for inspiration, go watch Alien 3. ;-)

I had a similar project in mind. Instead of bars, they'd be kept in by 'Power Fields'. Simulating the Power Fields would be easy. You can get colored report covers at any office supply store and you can make endposts out of T-bar (Plastruct). You don't neeed t-bar, but if you use it you can actually just slide the 'Power Fields' in and out simulating them being turned on/off.

I haven't built this yet as I'm looking for inspiration on how to make it: 1. Really different and 2. Useful for possibly more than one scenario. Maybe if I make it modular I can re-arrange it and have the cells double as office cubicles...but it'd have to be a faiirly 'clean' prison for that.

My three thoughts revolved around 1. Fallout style prison. 2. Mass Effect style prison and 3 Fortress (starring Christopher Lambert) style prison.

I'd have thought the imperium would just shoot the criminals on site.

I would also look at the Chronicles of Riddick planet Crematorium. seems like a befitting IG place to me.

hell the break out sequence could be the same.

Actually no. They have prison planets, penal colonies and Penal Legions in the IG. Why shoot them when you can put them to good use clearing a minefield?

Hi all,

Sorry, to explain further; I was thinking a sort of housing facility for the prisoners to be kept when they're not out forced working in the mines.

Sorry, what I meant was they were normal criminals and have now broken out of the prisons and joined together in a force which have picked up weapons, etc. so they are effectively a traitor guard force.

Thanks for a lot of amazingly quick replies. I now have a lot of films to watch... and I dare say there'll be more when I get back.

I imagined once a prison fortress planet. Essentially, the convicts there make up about 2/3 of the planets defence force while guards and support make up the other 1/3. The whole planet is covered in a series of interlinked forts which also function as prisons. Sectors of prisons are controlled by tall towers which are basically flak towers (see wikipiedia) and they all report to a massive place fortress which is referred to as precinct command. The place is crawling with gun batteries and weapon nests. Places that look like a safe landing zone turn out to be cover-less squares of ground with bastions on all four sides.

This way you could make a cool fortress table but place jail blocks and barred gates in places.

Hi all,

I just remembered that I posted the general fluff to the campaign involving the prisoners, etc. on dakka and here it is:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/376420.page

For those of you who can't be bothered with that, it is essentially a penal planet where all the prisoners are forced to work in mines miles under the surface, no prisoner ever makes it out. The surface is actually quite good with very few prisons and all the prisons are away from urban areas.

Also, I'm planning on starting the first concept drawings today, and I found some more inspiration; as it's a prison in a mine I was looking for something similar when I spotted Black Ops and so I played the Vorkuta mission. This was actually very useful.

Thanks.

For prison terrain you may want to start with what prisons look like general

You might try looking into using Hirst Arts molds. They might be useful for external details, and if you want to go nuts you could do an indoor setting.

http://www.hirstarts.com/molds/moldssci.html

It can be somewhat of an investment to get started up, but it can be a lot of fun. Building with HA molds is like Lego for wargaming. You can cast as many as you want, build the cells like you want, reconfigure for different scenarios, etc. The sci-fi molds have some doors that would be great for prison cells. Take a look on the forums, search for Space Hulk and check out the builds people have devised.

http://hirstarts.yuku.com/topic/5393/The-Hulk-project-one-year-or-several-later?page=1#.TkNDGs1YQh8

I've considered doing a scenario similar to yours, sounds like fun.

The book 'Execution Hour' describes an Arbite precinct- during an attack, all the prisoners are poison gassed before they even get a chance to think about escaping- as soon as there's a whiff of trouble. There's a scene where the Arbites are rounding up a bunch of losers so they can be press-ganged into service on an Imperial Cruiser, so not all are immediately turned into servitors. The Imperium has many, many ways to punish deviants and other people in the wrong place at the wrong time. The precinct has defense turrets manned by servitors as I recall. I'll need to read it again, I thought it was a great book.

Keep in mind Arbites aren't necessarily (rarely in fact) the regular planetary 'police', but the planetary police are often modeled after the Arbites so they're a good place to start research.

So that's what hirst arts is, I'd heard people talking about HA and plaster and molds and stuff but had no idea what they were on about.

Anyway, that stuff looks great, definitely gonna give that a try.

Thanks.

Sorry about the lack of concept designs but I didn't realise that the all-in-one printer could do everything wirelessly except scan stuff and then I went on holiday the next day. I'm still in somerset and will be for a while but when I get back I'll try and find the leads to plug it all in. I'm also sorry about how long it took me to post this up here but, ummmm, well... I forgot to be honest.

Anyway, I've also been thinking special units of some kind, not sure yet but we'll see.

Yes, if you ant to make prison terrain, I suggest using mesh wire. It is very cheap, and you can find it just about anywhere.

I've been flifking through my white dwarf and just saw the gate to that garden of moor kit and although it's obviously not futuristic, I might include it as some of last resort extra gate as it looks awesome.

When I read the last chancers it was an interesting take on a prison.... trouble is youd need to build a tower 4-5 feet tall, with the only access points via landing pat at the top, and the board would have only 3 boulders for any sort of terrain....
