Just like it says. Part two of the GenCon recap is up, this time with the bad, including GW, Privateer Press, Wyrd Miniatures, and veiled shots at crappy Cosplay.

Well...is it really that offensive? Wyrd's recent miniature lineup is hit-and-miss, as they have been since they started making models for a game as opposed to just for fun, and we always knew there was a chance Puppet Wars was not going to be a good boardgame. PP had no real big reveal this year - last year would have been hard to top, anyway. Some of the stuff doesn't make all that much sense to me; is it really such a bust that Wyrd combines resin and metal oddly in Sonnya's Avatar?

And GW as a company aren't there and demonstrate that they lack the finger on the pulse of US convention season. Big Surprise....

I think PP used up all of their surprises to make their first lock and load a hit. I do wish they'd have saved a little bit for gencon though, maybe throw in a couple of in-progress models in their display case.
It dose sound like soda pop and fantasy flight were big hits though.

Good sumation, Spot on!

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

It wasn't a surprise. The surprise is the good thing. The unexpected is what can really make a booth a hit. Privateer didn't do a bad job, it was just really, really, really, undewhelming.

@Kaptajn - I don't know that anything was really offensive. I didn't think I indicated that, but if I did I'll make some edits. The bust with the Sonnia mini is that they really could have made most of it out of resin. I don't quite understand why the entirety of the flames portion wasn't resin. That's all. I'll still probably get the model . Puppet Wars, on the other hand, really was a disappointment. I expect they'll remedy it soon enough by offering the puppet models in a more affordable format (blisters, perhaps), but I expect they're going to have to eat some losses in regards to Puppet Wars.

This may be over generalizing, but people hate GW for always trying to be secretive and surprise people with new releases and models (that would be me). Now we're mad at PP because they weren't able to surprise us and instead gave us stuff they'd told us they were going to give us?

Who's this 'we'? I saw one guy who was slightly disappointed with PP on his blog.

Now, if we had dozens of topics being made down in the PP section, and in the Discussion subforum, then saying 'we're made at PP' might be true.

Traditionally cons like Gen-Con are are where annoucnements are made, not where the products are first revealed.

We want earlier announcments, and having them at Cons really makes attendees feel cool.

Haven't bothered with Gen Con in something in years.

Also: seeing this forum turn on Warmafail would be an interesting exercise in "how fast can the moderators continue to exude a sexual dynamism that has a power level over a bit over 4,999 !

Go troll somewhere else Worglock. Your 'Warmafail' nonsense is really quite... well... it's a load of nonsense!

Anyway...

Games Workshop—First, let me be clear: yes, I know GW never comes to GenCon. Yes, I know I already wrote that Blood Bowl: Team Manager was really fun to play. Yes, I know there were lines to play Space Marine all convention long. But GW: get your head out of your collective butt and don’t put Games Day in a location within four hours of Indianapolis the week before GenCon. It’s a terrible marketing idea. Second: let Fantasy Flight sell the gak out of Warhammer merchandise. I get that you don’t want to make posters, or t-shirts, or other assorted crap that your audience would gobble up quicker than Hurley eats a bucket of fried chicken, but you need to let someone do it. They. Will. Sell. I’d give a pint of blood to Khorne every month if you produced some t-shirts for me to buy. TO BUY. Fantasy Flight clearly has a very capable grasp on the Warhammer IP. I want to see GW utilize that. I want to see GW make a partnership game with Fantasy Flight. FFG has the resources, facilities and knowhow to produce high quality boardgame products. GW has the resources, facilities and knowhow to produce high quality miniature products. Work together. Release Warhammer Quest as your first partnership product. Announce it at GenCon 2012. Print money. Rinse and repeat with subsequent Warhammer Quest expansions.

Ne'er a truer word has been spoken about GenCon 2012. There's no 'Exalt' button at that blot, so I'll do it here instead.

Almost completly agree on your sentiments. The only thing I'd like to add is of the overall poor attitude that the people working the PP booth had, on both of my visits to the booth I was almost asked to leave their little area while browsing there goods, the only thing that saved me was my exhibitor badge issued by a large online retailer. When I went to check out it took me 15 minutes, I was the only person in line.....

At the OP~
What did you expect by going to Gencon? You post title says "mostly bad edition." But your complaints are about lines, your disappointed they had models instead of rumors for some new stuff, and you complain about lack of GW T-Shirts?

I'm sorry, but you seem like you missed out on a lot of Gencon form what i've heard. Gencon is great for the tournments, and some of the visual sites. Its not a massive convention, but is very reasonible. Part of the convention experience is just being around other gamers. I've been to loads of GT / conventions, and never walked away feeling cheated. Asking for GW to have T-Shirts? Not going to happen. The reason: they used to, no one bought them. They had a awesome range of T-Shirts for $20, but no one bought them, why would they try it again?

Was this your first convention? It sure reads like it. You goto a convention with hundreds, probably a thousand people.. your going to have a line, they are going to screw up some's badge, at least they owned their mistake. The easy question: did you walk away feeling you got your money's worth? If so be happy.

I have to say, I too wish GW would expand their products a bit. If they made some Ork inspired tshirts or something similar, I can promise you Id buy them, would I spend $50 on a good hoody that fits well? Damn strait I would. I love hoodies, they are all I wear when Im not melting outside. Specially if it had SOMETHING Ork on it. How hard would it be for them to license a company to do such things? Random Ork Glyph hoody, heres my 50 bucks, a couple random Ork glyph tshirts? Heres my 15-20 bucks per shirt. Some people might find that lame for this hobby, but you guys can go screw yourselves, you proudly wear your random band tshirts, and dont EVER complain about them selling out doing it

I want to know what is coming out 3-5 years in advance and I want to be the first person to leak it all out to the rest of the world with pictures and rumors. I want GW to make the minis and hold on to them so they can release them all at once and the same goes for PP. Once they make a mini, I don't ever want them to resculpt it or ever make a new model after that point. There would be no reason to do so.

When I go to a convention, I don't want anyone to be there other than myself and the Company's that are trying to sell ME and ONLY ME stuff. I hate waiting in line and do not wish to smell the gamer funk. Each vender must also provide me with a T-Shirt. If said T-Shirt isn't provided to me, I will commence being the verbal gashing of the teeth on the Internets.

Let me know if you need to translate from sarcasm.
