I have had a look at a lot post and see that not many people like Space wolves and Black templars two of the best CC armys in 40k,their upgrades are great and their armour looks great to. I know people have their own choice but these two armys get to many people saying they are bad.

Tali'Zorah: I appreciate what you're doing here, Shepard.
Commander Shepard: Well, I care deeply about the quarian people.
Tali'Zorah: It's good to be back on the Normandy.
Commander Shepard: Let me know if it's too quiet for you to sleep, and I'll find you someplace louder.
Tali'Zorah: Hmm.

I have no idea where you are seeing that, SW are one of the top armies now, and BT are really good now that they got FAQ'd.

^ this for me as well.

I'm somewhat fond of the Templars, but the SW are just a tad too much "special snowflake mary sue" for my taste and have been hyped too much. It just doesn't appeal to my sense of "narrative balancing". Which is a shame, for at the core, the idea of a Viking Chapter was pretty cool.

I have to agree, the being the most special of the special the marines seem to have in their background just makes them seem dull to me. Sort of takes away from any accomplishments they make because from the start of whatever story you know they're going to win in the end, leading to the losses being more memorable and seem to be worth more.

They're not bad armies, though SW's often end up playing more like old school Iron Warriors armies than anything else, however any people dislike SW's because they are seen as cheesy and a bandwagon army (SW's were by far the most popular list at Adepticon, 90% of them were "counts as') and have *atrocious* fluff. As for BT's, they're an ok army and seem to do ok, they certainly don't have the issues that SW do.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

The Space Wolves attract considerable opprobrium because their background is one-dimensional and their special rules and lists are unbalanced.

I wasn't aware anybody hated the Black Templars.

I would have to agree with English Assassin with that I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about the Templar.
As for why people don't play alot of Templar it's because they don't have a new codex and, in case you haven't noticed alot of people are bandwagoners, and always say their army is the new one that's why alot of people don't have codex painted marines because if they did that they would be more committed to that army, so they go with something neutral so they can go (I'm space wolves, then I'm blood angels, then very soon you will probaly see I'm black templars or dark angels)

The knowledge that people hated space wolves was quite known to me, however... people hate black templars? How? Even before FAQ they were a great army.

This is the internet. For every 1 positive post about anything (save rescuing a kitten from a fire) there will be 100 negative posts. This has its own form of bandwagoning as well. So much easier to go with the flow.

I personally think that over half of everyone who says they hate an army (pick any) don't actually hate that army. Most are probably rather indifferent about them, but its easier to pick out a negative and focus on it than a positive and risk getting ridiculed by the vocal minority.

However, having said all that. The SW codex can be overpowered in some situations. It can be abused and as such many WAAC players gravitated to it. Only to gravitate away when BA and GK codex came out. This is very easy to do since marine figures and vehicles are very universal. If say the next deamon codex came out and was 100% all cheese, you probably wouldn't have the same bandwagoning because it would be rather impossible to have the marine with missile launcher represent a fury. Nobody is gonna buy that. But with marines most models are still WYSIWYG with the exception of color. And sadly color doesn't matter. You don't have to take 4 Rune Priests, you don't have to take 5 grey hunter squads with razors and 18 long fangs. I know I don't and my army plays just fine. If your facing such atrocities don't blame the codex, blame the player for not having any vision or wanting to have any form of fun other then just winning. But to each their own.

I'm the opposite of all the Wolf haters. The Wolves always have been (since the introduction of 3rd ed) and always will be the only marine chapter I have ever considered playing. Not because of their rules but because of their fluff. They are the only marines that actually seem like individuals with personality and not just autonomous clones of the person next to him.

I put on my polarized glasses when reading their fluff though. I filter out and ignore the OTT stuff, and keep all of the personality. I love my space vikings, and fully acknowledge that there is some really crap fluff about them. Canis and his thundersquirl just don't exist in my 40K gaming world. I like that they have flaws and are fighting against their own mutations. I like that each one isn't just another unstoppable, unkillable, drone unlike how many other SM chapters are perceived.

Do people really hate?*
Sad if they feel such passionate emnity towards fictional space dudes represented by little plastic soldiers.

A more interesting question imho, is why the word "hate" gets bandied about the forum so readily.

The number of "Why all the Hate for (insert name of the poor misunderstood faction here)" proliferate on Dakka.
No doubt some witty poster will copy/paste that aweful image of strolling smirkdom thinking it clever.

If you like a given army, stuff popular opinion and exercise your individual right to enjoy them. Goddammit you are playing 40K.
You must needs be a nerd and therefore ought be used to being an outsider and unpopular! You have no need for the approval of the majority!

I have actualy played them since the 1st Edition/Rouge Trader Days.
I was there when the 2nd Edition Codex came out and three weeks later a the local ternament 75% of the armies were Space Wolves so they could load out as many Teleporting Assuatl Cannon/Cylone Missile Launcher Wolf Guard as Possible.
I was there when the same thing happend with the 3rd Edition Codex came out and they dumped Njal/Born and nerfed the Runic Powers. I loved the fact they could never Teleport, this made them diferent.
NOW, I have to deal with all of those who hate Spave Wolves for IMOPO some of the stupidest reasons.
1] They are Marines
2] They are Marines with there own Codex
3] They are Cheesey
4] They are Fury
5] There Fluff Sucks
6] They are just anther Marine Codex so my [inster codex here] will not be brought out
7] They are being used for Count as Army becuse my [insert codex here] sucks

Name the last Codex that has had any good fluff in it.

I play Space Wolves and have now for 23 years Sucky Codex or not.
I am sorry if mine is the best

This is basically how I feel, I personally actually like the Templars, and in terms of gameplay don't really mind the Wolves, but they have thick plot armour as a chapter even by Astartes standards, and have protested their special snowflake/Sue qualities multiple times.

But in terms of the gameplay, am pretty okay with them.

Never heard anyone say they disliked Templars though.
