I've been considering using Dupli-Color Automotive Metallic Chrome spray paint (http://duplicolor.com/products/automotiveMetallic/) for my future GK army, but I wanted to ask Dakka a few questions about it before I end up blowing money on it:

1. I've seen videos where they recommend using a glossy black spray paint base coat first, is this required? At the end of the videos I see little difference between the chrome on plastic and chrome on the base coat glossy black.

2. How does, after drying, the chrome finish hold up to being painted over with acrylic/washes? I mean to ask if it will just slip off and never hold or if the acrylic/washes would still adhere to the chrome.

3. How do the following glues/putties respond to the chrome paint, and vice versa?
a) Green Stuff
b) Testors Liquid Cement for plastic models
c) Gorilla brand Super Glue
I ask in case I need to add detail or more parts later on.

Any experience/tips would be appreciated, or thoughts on better/easier chrome paints to use.

No experience with that spray paint but I do have experience painting an entire GK army. I would just stick with hand painting them. Boltgun metal/chainmail are very easy colors to work with. 1 coat over a black primer and your set!

The main thing you have to be careful of is that chrome spray paint is , from experience, quite thick and may obscure a lot of the details on the model. It can also be hard to paint over as other paints tend not to stick to it too well.

The paint i tried was a different brand to this one though, so your mileage may vary.

If you are going to do it, I'd recommend trying on a test mini first, just to test the thickness of the paint and how it reacts with other paints.

What do you want for tea? I want crisps!

Most definitely base in gloss black, that is going to largely influence the final result, the higher gloss the base, the better the final finish. And if you want to have fun, then use a color other than gloss black!

I don't think the acrylics will stick to well to that chrome finish, nothing for the paint to bite into.
