Hey gits, you might of remembered me awhile back wanting help deciding what to buy and heard i gathered 30 orc boys, 20 savage boys, 40 night goblins (with spears), 10 forest goblins, 10 black orcs, an orc shaman, a boar chariot & 3 fanatics... so far I have had my ass handed to me... it's probably because i don't know the game well enough yet... but I could sure use some help fighting things like daemons of chaos, tomb kings ect... they all seem to have a synergy i haven't been able to get with my lists. I was hoping we could look over a few things in my list and see what we could maybe try and do to make my list more competitive and capable of fighting big 45 man blocks of skeletons, or 40 man units of seaguard elves, or really whatever is out there.

You need more Orc Boyz. You either go with a lot of Boyz or with no Boyz. Also, could you PM me and/or write a more detailed list you use? What kind of upgrades?
Also, 10 Black Orcs won't do much. You need more of them if you're going to field them. You got to remember that Orcs and Goblins is a horde army and they aren't that amazing one on one but with numbers.
Also, do you use Savage Orc Big'Uns AND Black Orcs in your list? Then I will say already right now that it's pretty stupid because both are really expensive in points.
At the moment it feels like with your list that you want a little of everything and in theory it works - BUT, you need bigger units for that. Personally I like shooty stuff + lots of Boyz and one hardhitter (Savage Orc Big'Uns) and I do great with them.
Also, I like Night Goblins with bows A LOT more than with spears. They are cheaper and will be able to fire around 40 - 80 S3 attacks before they get in close combat, depending on how many you use and then they get to hit for S3 in close combat (just like Night Goblins with spears and shield.)
Really though, i'd say - post your current list and show the upgrades.

Here's what worked for me.
Lots of Cheap goblin heroes with great weapons.
Mangler Squigs and Fanatics (doesn't play well with others)
Units of 3 Wolf Chariots
Giant
Trolls (6 or more per unit)
Doom Divers and Stone Throwers
All of those give your army actually killing power.
Big Blocks of goblins, or big blocks of orcs hold the opponent in place for the hitting to do the killing.
You MUST keep both the general and BSB alive. Basic leadership on the troops is too crappy to keep the units fighting.
Usually I ran a mix of goblins and orcs. I'd put goblins on the more open side of the deployment and use the fanatics (usually around 6) to disrupt the enemy advance.
Goblin heroes/lords would join goblin units provide hitting power to the holding blocks.
In the middle I'd run orc blocks, and on the other side would be the hitters.
I'd push forward with the blocks, and hook in with the hitters into the flanks.
Behind these lines I'd run small units of black orcs; General in one with the banner of discipline, BSB in another, wizard lord in the 3rd. Warmachines would be safely behind the blocks.
Worked pretty well.

O&G are all about numbers, so you have to take troops in large groups or a large amount of war machines. Spider riders work better in units of five IMO. Put your army list up, so we can help you there

Trolls are for me 7 per unit, in a 3-3-1 formation, the last one being just a wound bunker to ensure the front get all their attacks.
Back to grand strategy, O&G need focusing, you have lots of options but you run the risk of spreading your army too thin.
You can make a decent shooting list with lots of night goblins, warmachines and magic, etc.
You can also make a fighty list with boyz (big'uns are a must), night gobbos with fanatics and nets (which sadly got frigginly expensive with the last book), squig herds and supporting magic and flanking/redirecting stuff.
Finally, you can make a fast and furious list with lots of chariots, boar boyz, wolf boyz, manglers etc..... and magic, of course.
There are some stuff you can always trust: mangler squigs are excellent for their cost. They deal massive damage but if they don't get there at least they have done their job as missile magnets.
Magic: Though nerfed from previous edition, it's still pretty useful.
Fast cavalry, units of 5 wolves or spiders are cheap redirectors and give you vanguard movement and use deployment slots. Now you can give the wolves 4+ AS and still be fast cav, which is quite good.
Trolls, at their point cost, they're a bargain. Stupidity is a huge issue (and the reason they're not priced like minos) so again, carful with the strategy.
I've had success with the fighty+warmachines approach and with the fast+fighty approach. Don't take it too bad if a key animosity or bad mushroom roll ruins your turn, it's supposed to be part of the fun.

Swap Gitilla for a goblin shaman, magic is useful.
Put the armour of destiny on the BSB, and give the warboss a magical weapon.
Big Stabbas are fun but I don't think they are worth it.
With the wolf riders cut them down to a unit of 5/6.
Some people say spears on gobbos are worth it, but I don't think so I prefer a parry save to extra attacks with gobbos.
Spend the points you have left over on some war-machines.

Another flying Goblin? And I thought only Doom Divers had that chance... Never thought of such an approach... I'll try it next time my Dwarf nemesis fields 9 war machines again...
Back on topic, Black Orcs should really be 20 at least, if you intend to use them. Otherwise, Savage Boyz are great too.
Trolls are a real bargain, even the simple ones, just keep them close to your general or else they'll be picking daisies and munching grass during the entire battle...
Magic is fun! Goblin lore especially. Try it. Goblin shamans are notoriously cheap and their spells are real fun (when they work )

I play at 3k with mY orcs and I use the all orcs no gobbis approach, I have a unit of 30 savage boy big uns with add hw a unit of 40 black orcs, 3 units of 30 orcs, 2 night goblin shammys (lvl 2) a level 3 NG shammy a level 4 savage shammy w shrinkhead grimgore and a black Orc bsb rockin tali of present and enchanted shield. And two pet mangler squigs. Wailing banner on savages razor on the black orcs.
So far this list has had a grand total of about 400 victory points given up. And has tabled every army it played everything from wall of iron style chaos (100+ warrior and hellcannon) to dwarves gun lines.
Fact is it's difficult to drop 180 orcs off the table lol and if your hit by the BO or the SO it's close to over.
Ps fists of girl on your savage shaman is awesome when he beats down dwarf kings haha
Cheers. Strength in numbers!!!
Mike

Savage orcs don't get a magic banner. If you mean it's on the bsb he can't have magic items then.
