basically consisting of

Ghoul king on terrorgeist
Ethereal Vampire banner bearer
Tomb Banshee Hero
Carin Wraith Hero
Ghouls as core

Wights and wraiths to fill my rare and special choices.

do you think it would work? id be looking to put this up to 2k or 2.5k only games. any ideas? thanks.

I'm working on 1 big block of ghouls, 2 small blocks, 2 blocks of grave guard, a Vampire lord, bsb, 2xbanshees and 2xwriaths (heroes)
I am going to try a small unit of vampire cav instead of the terrorgeist; and a varghulf.

My plan is to pre-game move all the ghouls forward, and on turn 1, (against most opponents) have the 4 ethereal characters jump out of the two smaller ghouls units. I plan on using the Wraith characters as speed bumps, and flank varghulf and banshee, supporting with ghouls. With the 5 single models, I think I should be able to get some good angles on the charges and over-run a flank.
With my other flank being 2x grave guard and vampire cav, my opponent can't really focus all his attention on just one side. My center will be softer (single large block of ghouls), but with the vampire lord and BSB, I should be able to hold out for a very long time; until help can arrive (or be summoned in).

It's not until point values climb higher do I plan on bringing in a Terrorgeist; though if the vampire knights don't work, they'll be swapped out for one earlier on.

Personally, I would go with one block of grave guard and make that block large and give them the standard that gives them flamming attacks. Thow your Wight King in there and make him a standard bearer with one of the many standards to choose from (Von Carstein Regen Banner is always fun) and a Blood Dragon Vampire with Walking Death/Causes Terror and the sword that gives you +1 wound (or model) for each wound you cause. You will have one unit that will not budge and will hit like a load of bricks. Zombies and ghouls should be around you for support.

That's exactly what I wanted to avoid. You're looking at a ~400 point unit, with a 200+ point BSB, and a ~350 point general. With characters, that's pushing close to 1,000 points.

When you do that, the game becomes more about your 1 unit. If you run into an enemy that has an answer for that 1 unit, you're in trouble.
I've seen dwarf builds that brutalize Grave Stars (Long Beard Rangers with axes, rune of slowness, and the anvil). You're charging at 1/2 speed -1D6". He backs away firing. And drops lots of flaming warmachine love on you.
Lots of armies have good builds that hose a single death star, which is why I tend to split up my heroes (or run cheap ones) and always bring at least 4 or 5 units with me.

You should also have faster elements as well - Varghulf and cavalry to hunt the enemy's warmachines. You've also got several ways to get Vanhel's off as well. If you find that they are harassing your flanks summon some zombies to tie them up, getting pummeled by thunderers create a small disposable zombie unit forcing him to shoot through it with at least soft cover modifiers. Have two small 15 man ghoul units or wolves to tie him up while you get to him. You can march the dogs while you have a Varghulf nearby. You've got Vampire Bats and Bat Swarms for fast movement too - If you move correctly, you should be able to move your bats into position to get Vanhal's off and a first turn charge (20 + 2D6"). You don't have to kill them right away, you just need to tie them up so you can move accross the field as fast as possible.
