I finally got an Airbrush up and running with no small donation from my good friend LBursley! To get me started in learning the thing and it's abilities, I've used it to help paint the Codex Grey onto the Drop Pod commission!

I'm headed out to GW Onley tomorrow for a pot of Mechrite Red and possibly some Boltgun Metal as well.

I'm already really impressed with how the airbrush works for me. I'm just doing the simple stuff right now trying to learn the limits of the new tool, but I can't believe I did without it for so long!

I've got an airbrush meself but i'm yet to try it out. I'm a bit apprehensive tbh. What do you use to thin the GW paints? Also, what is the thinner : paint ratio that you're using? Cheers.

Also, good work and i can't wait to see the desert camo bike!!

I'd suggest you give it a try on some paper or a test model. Thinned paint is definitely the name of the game. I'm sure you checked out the Airbrushing tutorial in the tuts section if you haven't. I ran it about 50/50 paint/thinner. I just used water for this first try and it worked out alright. I did use a little bit of flow improver as well too. Just a few drops and mixed it all together well.

I'm really going all out with the airbrush on the drop pod commission. Learning a lot as I do as well. I'm obviously going to have to go back in and do a bit of clean up here and there with the brush, but I'm really happy with the knowledge I've picked up so far!

The plan from here out is to go brush in the black and touch up over spray by hand as well. After that they should be good to go! And while this took a bit longer than expected, future projects should be much faster with the airbrush up and running now. Just need to plan things out a bit more!

I'm hoping to start sharing what I've learned from this so far with those of you out there looking to start using an airbrush! Expect something on TPC in the next month or so!

I did indeed. It's part of my art school build up, one of my first oil paintings since high school x.x.

Finished them up finally! It took me a while to get around to finishing them, but mostly because I didn't have a set sit down and paint time at the end of the day. I've decided to see to that as part of my day off of school routine ( along with a little bit of skating and gym time! ).

All in all it was a great learning experience using my airbrush on this project. I need some additional equipment that I'll likely order soon.

I guess it's time to get back to work on my other projects while I sort out the next commission.

New piece started.

Coming along pretty quickly. I'm sure he'll slow down as I get working on details.

BTW, this guy will be looking for a home after he's finished ^_-...

Nice, when did you pick this guy up mate?

I remember getting him for some anniversary at GW years ago. Pretty collectable item now given it was a limited release!

Dante, Snagged this from a friend a few months back. I had one last year that I was thinking of repainting, so I stripped him and had him in a bits container for a while. Went to a bitz swap and a Templar guy went nuts for him, so I hocked him off for some other goodies ^_^...

Photos are somewhat flat, so I'll likely take some better ones tomorrow. It's been a while since I'd done a collage, so I thought it would be fun to work on.

Again, this guy is looking for a caring home should any of you templar players be in need/want of him!

Wow, excellent job mate! Best painted version of that model that I've ever seen.

Nicely arranged and styled display of the photo's too! I need to start doing that some time with finished stuff.

Oh, wait.....

A couple of weeks back I entered a quick contest Jeff Wilhelm was running over on his blog. Jeff runs Dragonforge.com, one of many resin basing companies that have popped up in the past few years. I've never been huge into the buying resin bases thing, I picked up some a few months back during BoLSCon and while nice, they always seem to fall into one of two categories, too detailed or crazy for use for an entire army, or just too easy to make on your own for a fraction of the cost. I kept this mindset for a long time, right up until I found the Lost Empires set from Jeff. While I loved the set, I still didn't see myself snagging them due to cost restraint. Then, out of nowhere I check Jeff's blog and see that I'd won $50 worth of bases!

I came home today to see the package sitting in front of the door waiting for me, and since then I've been hard at modeling some spare Eldar I'd picked up from a friend. Check out the pic above to see a quick example of the bases and be sure you head over to Dragonforge.com and see if anything strikes your fancy. I'm for sure picking up more of these from Jeff in the future as I exhaust this supply! Also keep your eyes peeled for a bit more in depth thoughts/review on TPC as I finish some of these models.

LBJ, you should have a pm.

+++++++++++

Just a quick snapshot of the eldar I've assembled and primed so far. Still have a bunch more stuff to go. Apparently, I've got around 1500 points spread around my hobby room from some things I've purchased, gotten in trade or picked up from friends that wanted to get rid of them!

Airbrush parts are on the way which will facilitate the paint for these guys. Picked up a metal siphon cup and some more pots/tops/covers for it as well. Once airbrush parts get in, I'll be doing base coloring for everything at once! Stay tuned.

Took some time to knock out my first model for the Eldar! I've decided to go with an Ulthwe scheme for them, with a little twist to the black. I haven't actually used black paint on the model past painting the base rim. The black was German Grey airbrushed on with a grey highlight washed down with Badab Black and final highlights done using Shadow Grey followed by Space Wolves Grey.

I'm not trying to take forever with these guys, I just want to paint them. The farseer got a bit more time taken on him, mostly because of the details. Hope to work out more tomorrow!

Very nice_

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Love the way you've done the black and the runes on the cloth going down the robes. Do you prime with spray can or use your airbrush to spray one some sort of primer before the basecoat?

I like the idea of using several Greys instead of black.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments.

Scherdy, I use krylon white primer much of the time. The base coat is airbrushed on top of that.

DE, I think the greys work nicely for how much I let them show through. I originally planned to make it a bit more evident, but decided a more muted look would be more in keeping with the Ulthwe colors while maintaining my own spin on the scheme.

Yeah I agree with what you're saying. The standard Bone/Black look is good, but it's nice to see some variation, almost like wethered robes.
