@G_D The rune priest looks awesome, as does the assault marine. I always have a lot of time for those painters who tackle the halved and quartered paint schemes. The only gripe I do have is with the base, for me it detracts attention away from the model a bit, just personal preference though I guess.

@MT11 You don't live that far apart Tom, Google maps gives it as a poultry 2 day car journey away. So what if you have to cross into a different country to get there its all about the road trip.

Very nice. I got to say, I am still a fan of your blue. While my base color is pretty much pinned down for my SW, I think I will borrow your color scheme for my Rune Priest as I would like to differentiate him without resorting to a clashing ultramarine blue.

Personally, I enjoy painting the old SW models, as I think they had some of the best character for 2nd edition. I would even go and say that thier character rivals some of the newest SW plastics; take my WG scout pack leader for instance. Saddly, I sold off most of my 20 or so old SW terminator models years back, though I have some lovely FW conversions that will one day take thier place.

PS I also want to commend you for judiciously turning the voting feature off for your WIP shots .

Tank is good for not only consistent pressure but reduces the wear and tear on a compressor from starting/stopping all the time. For the compressor it's good to invest the money at the start and have it last you for the long haul than buying smaller/cheaper ones and replacing them.

paltry 2 days lol! I have taken a grand total of 7 days off in the last 2 years, so 2 days is tougher than it sounds! :S

I am just praying I will be able to take a week off before my son is born in Oct... one last huzzah for playing a videogame, or ordering pizza in the afternoon, or spending more the 2 consecutive hours on the couch... a man can dream lol

You need to spend less time on the forums and more time on vacation and painting! Good stuff on making Tom Jr. Get busy a few more times and you can have your own painting sweatshop!

Congrats on the baby Tom, it is important to get that you time in before the big day, and 7 days in two years is impressive if slightly disturbing, is your plastic crack addition that bad you cant take time off?

Lenny, glad you're digging the models, as to the base, I dont think the high contrast slightly off lighting shot helps tp really show the base in the best way. For me, it helps to give the models a sense of place, and warms the piece up overall. And hey, its only 1 days ride imo, I've taken lomger trips in a day before I think its high time the canadians had a dakka get together too.

Wyomimg, thanks, i'm really happy with the way the blue ended up on the space wolves, its a dead ringer fpr the wolves of old that made me fall in love with this hobby in the first place. I'm kimd of kicking myself now though as I traded away my Iron Priest a few years ago. I might need to get my hands on him again...

Egg, thanks for the added thoughts on the purpose of a tank. I'll also have to consider getting a compressor with an auto shut off feature for that reason.

Tom, you should take more time off, come down to the states, I got your first pint! You'll need some respite in a few months, best of luck with all the sleepless nights and zombie mind days!

A little something different:


Overwatch, 24"x18" Acrylic on Canvas

I did this piece as a break from my usual artwork, a play in super saturated color and texture. A nice change up from the usual super realistic or straight black and white work I usually do (for those interested, here's a link to my personal art website). Overall I'm quite happy with how the piece ended up and came together. It definitely felt good to play around with color this way and allowed me to just get lost in it and not really think too much.

I hope to find a home for this piece too, so if you're interested shoot me a PM and we'll talk!

Eventhough I like your drawings much more it's still a nice painting.

The marine is a bit dark and his left hand seems a bit flat and deformed, but those are just minor mistakes imo. ; )

Composition and color pick are well done.

Heya IPS, Thanks for the reply. I feel your sentiments on the large drawings. But they are also a lot more time intensive Being around 20x larger and all! As an effort in color and texture though I've never had more fun than in painting and hope to continue exploring it with more stuff like this and other fun nerdy paintings!

All the metals are on, some might still need a touch up here or there, but for the most part those areas are finished.

As you can see, I'm up to three completely painted. I'll be working on them today to see how many I can get finished before the weekend!

I'm still up in the air on the shoulder badges...I'm pretty sure I'll be getting sick of it and just freehanding them completely.....

So happy to be finished with the assault squads. That puts me up around 1k points and gives me the go ahead for a Death Company unit Not to mention more terminators from my Space Hulk set, the next of which is looking like will be the Librarian. A good change of color while still being extremely useful for the current force!

But as always, who knows what will catch my eye next as I get to wander my hobby room! I hope you enjoyed watching the progress on these guys and dig the final result. Now, to kick some teeth in with them!

Eggroll, Thanks, for an army that was born out of a want for dual purposed Space Hulk terminators, I'm quite happy with how they're coming along. I ended up finding a skull that was the perfect size on the Cadian transfer sheet! I did however have to add the wings freehand. I went back on the first three and redid their shoulders with the new sized skull as well. Though with one I didn't have a transfer for so I just freehanded it.

Gitsplitta, I'm glad they come across that way! The power weapons so far have been a lot of fun. And after a few games with them, I've noticed how effective they are . I'll try and get a good squad by squad set of shots for the army, that should show off the packs a little better.

I'm not sure what I'm going to work on next. I just picked up a Blood Angels battleforce as well as a Drop pod through a trade. Not to mention a set of Secret Weapon flight deck bases. Oh and I have Sons of Medusa I could work on...Maybe more Space Wolves? Maybe it's time to finally get more work on my Warriors of Chaos done? Then there are the paintings I could be working on.

Armor sounds really good to me! I'd like to see how you'd apply the color scheme to the vehicles in question, especially the drop pod.

I agree, it does seem a bit empty. Is that the look you're going for, or have you toyed with some ideas of more terrain? I like the paint scheme though, with the heavy rust effects! Nicely done!

kanelom, The spareness is by design for the most part. I had to consider how models were going to stand on it all, how much space I would be willing to lose to details that would be covered by models standing on it, or wasted space to areas that models couldn't stand on. Considering the size of the board, I went with just a few minor details here and there and would let the models on top become the main focus on the display.

Rawson, I was worried the rust effect would be a little overwhelming but I think it came together nicely in the end. There's enough variation in the finish that it's not a solid block of color. It gets broken up more by the start colors of the models. See my reply to kanelom on the reason for how empty it feels. It might also help to keep in mind that I needed to allow space for army expansion. There will be at least one more squad of Terminators, a Libby, another assault squad and a death company squad going on this some day .

Emperors_Champion, Good to see the link helped you find your way out here The Angels will be catching additions some time down the road. I'll likely be going with the libby from the Space Hulk set next for them!

Not sure when it'll catch paint just yet! I'm thinking a mix between Afrikakorps and current US desert colors. Lots of miniature modeling techniques and ideas going to be used here.

that tank's had a lot of work put into it, I'd love to see what it would look like with a bit of paint slapped on!
