A very interesting prospect, this looks more like a mawloc than the GW kit. Let's hope size and price and quality is a winner here, I'm smelling opportunity for this model.

I hope to be able to post more updates on miniatures, the casts and releases soon, but for now I've got one tiny little update for you (upcoming) sculptors, Troll Forged Miniatures now also sells pro-create, a putty with which you could sculpt your very own miniatures!

Some more WIP's...

Doghouse started working on a new infantry kit:

And a message from him:
Well here's the prototype heavy trooper. I still need to bulk out the legs, clean up/blend in areas and add the details but he's coming along nicely.
Although I'm not aiming to create accessories for other model ranges the design is modular like the original and you will be able to mix and match torsos, heads, weapons, etc.

The main focus is on customisation and this will be evident with the game system they'll be supporting which will give players a massive scope of control over what their army looks like.

The main focus which although secondary to the customisation aspect is going to be proportions as I want to get away from bow legged, bobble headed, big handed war gaming models.

I really want to do one of these...

I call it the Pant-aconda. The nid of over compensation.

It'd make for a neat desert themed nid army. Sand worms rock. An inquisitor riding a sandworm... thats been dune.

That will be kind of the plan for the kit. There will be some "basic components" in the kit such as the head and the tail and also a few body segments. Then you could also order extra body segments to make the body as long as you want!

Hmm...Fremen Inquisitor...will he be fighting Chaos Harkonnens?

Hey Malika when are a lot of these hitting their website?

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I hope in the coming weeks, Ed is currently working on casting them and getting the current orders done, he is also busy trying to get the miniatures cast in plastic. But yeah...I hope the stuff will be out in the coming weeks!

By the way...who is that in your avatar? BrookM also seems to have that girl in his avatar.

A message from Ed:

Hey everyone, I know it seems as though not much is going on but lots and lots on my end making some very complex molds and casts. Cleaning, pouring, working on the final ventalation was a pregnant dog. My house had a bunch of rot in the wall from the deck and the shoddy job they did I had to fix temp to get by etc.

Anyway so you all do not think I'm screwing off some metal masters prior to cleaning. I'm getting there but reality is I'm not confident in my ability yet with the new equipment, about one month in and while good not great yet. I'm finding tricks, learning the different materials, etc.

Not sure if I'll do metal, resin, metal and resin, etc. When I'm more confident in a month or 2 I'll decide. Anyway we need to get new stuff out and I can learn as we go. Reason for this is to show how much detail I got with these metals. In fact the molds were ran well below melting point and the mold company was highly impressed. In fact beyond impressed. These are casts they claim come from years of experience so I think we will be ok just trickier than I thought.

I'm paying up on the web site this week, about $100 for the year now due to volume we are getting in bandwidth so I'm posting fewer pics on my end right now. Probably going to have to order around $500 metal and $100 in resin as well so if you desire anything I might even offer a preorder for a change, still trying to decide.

I'll be putting up a lot of stuff on ebay after to Christmas to offset the cost. I now have procreate for sale cheap as people seemed interested but none has moved. : So just a little talk from my end. I'm off to hit retailers to show what we will have soon and see if I can get us some sales. Thanks for your support and sorry I don't have time to be here much anymore. Please keep the community alive and when the mass of work is out of the way I'll be sculpting and back here again.

Learning a whole new system so please be patient with me, now enjoy the pictures! 8-)

That big lizard is the Quetzacot Sun God which you can order here.

And once again, a short message from Ed on the progress:

I love you all! Had a few drinks tonight trying to get everything sorted and into spin frames, in fact bought a nuts ton more rubber to be sure. Fact is I am working well beyond overload atm but am getting caught up and even learning a lot. My last mold was better than the last and each time has improved so may be the whole stress of this needing to work has focused me, who knows, dumb luck? :

I'm more than fair and if people want to give it a shot well be them. I do want to give everyone who is owed something their stuff. I have a ton getting ready to be released in Jan, feb. 1) we have my demons, with alterd versions, new improve foot soldier anti-hero. 2)Demogorath, 3) queen, and even my 4)old alien crouching. 5-6)Bocks old favorite with a head desgin altered be me. 7-9) Rozmax dwarfs with his gunner. 10-16) Ice's trenchers and walker. 17-18) Build's wight and vamp. 19-23) Toads minotaur, swarm, goblin. 24) revliss assassin. 25-26) K's orc and boar, and 27-40) Kobarf's stuff, mutants, pumpkin, all kinds of nice things. Hell I forgot my own 41-42) 2 big mutants, one altered completely and the other improved, now with ears! Then the improved versions of Build's lizard men 43-44. Nicks donations along with Jucy T's puts us at 47! That does not include the rtv, a few from toads, and sven's big nightmare beast. well over 50 new miniatures in that time!!!

Then I have to get Ice's mutants in, a few things of mine, builds back with his last few, THE GANGER CHICK! Kyte, Ikim, Darren, and probably doghouse when he is ready. This is a full team's worth of stuff to do and I'm it, so your stuck with me and the speed for now but it's going to get better and fast. I've just got to get over the learning curve everyone. Doing years worth of research in days, weeks here.

A little something from Ed:

Ok, I liked the hand idea at first, big claws with the spikes coming ut of the plams but seeing her together hate them. I was going to mold her today but I think I'll cut the hands off for new ones, small feminine hands and mold her tonight. :-/

Just as a minor point, why would a model like that have breast or specifically mammary glands? Cannot see much breast feeding going on with that mouth! However, I do like the model but would prefer a pronounced armoured ribcage that mammary tissue.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

That's a good point, Malika, could you give us some overview on the various things you've been showcasing here with an idea on dates, prices and so on, if they will be multipart plastics or something else?

I am keen to know about the mercenaries, the trenchers, post apocalypse girls etc.

That alien thing needs about six more teats. 2 kinda doesn't make sense, seeing the general appearance of that thing.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

I like ALOT. Any ETA when they will become available? Would love to use them as a ONI Corp troopers with some kit-bash with AT-43 minis...

A clear ETA is practically impossible at the moment because Ed is basically running a one man show, casting the models, doing the orders, experimenting with casting in plastic, taking care of his family, doing a day job and sculpting. This is also the reason why I started posting the messages from Ed here to show you his progress on the casting process. But if I'm not mistaken a lot of stuff will come out in January and February.

The infantry kits by Icesword will all be multipart kits and once the plastic technology is perfected they will be available in plastic as well.

When the plastic technique is down and those mercs and mutants and cultists and trenchers start rolling out...

You'd best prepare your folks for the demand. You will be producing the first really viable Imperial Guard infantry alternative, I strongly think they are going to be very very popular...

I think will be able to handle that, right now he is mostly making the moulds and experimenting with the materials. After that is done it would mean Ed would primarily focus on orders and a mould here and there. Just know that for now 2010 will most probably bring at least 50 new miniatures! :O

Plastic hooded cultists for fantasy would also be greatly appreciated (and have a million uses) as they would make excellent 'counts as' marauders for my impending slaanesh army.

I have a question for all of you here. We've been discussing this thread a little bit over at the Troll Forged Forums and some think it might be a bit "too much" that I post the WIP stuff and Ed's messages on the working process and rather see it would only include models which are already cast and have a clear release date.
On the other hand we have the opinion that Troll Forged Miniatures was never meant to be the conventional company which just produces and sells the product. It was always meant to be a very community based thing in which the online community (through our forum) had influence on how stuff is done, be it by submitting miniatures, writing fluff, working on gamesystems, discussing how we promote TFM, sell the minis, etc etc etc. With this comes a certain level of interactivity. This was also the reason why I posted a lot of WIP stuff here, to show you guys the stuff and see what you think of it. At this time it could still be changed somewhat (that would be impossible with finished pictures). Ed's messages are meant to show the workingprocess that is going on and how the stuff gets made.

So my question to you is, how would you like this thread to continue? Shall I stick to posting WIPs, casting progress, concepts and so on, making it somewhat vague (as in that I don't always have clear release dates and such for you) but more interactive. Or should I do what the other companies do, just show you the finished product and link to the store?

Continue this thread as is.

Open a second ongoing thread, much like this one, with release dates and final products.

I'm quite sure the mods wouldn't mind two organic threads instead of one, it will reduce the clutter in this one of me constantly asking when the mercenaries will be available...

K , here is my view on it.
Yes its very nice that a company posts there WIPs and potential customers can voice their views , and perhaps change the out come of how the mini look.
However,
Its a fact that everyone has different views on what looks good , after all beauty is in the eye of the beholder ( 70% of the time ) so the original artist should
take in the points that customers say and from that make a final artistic judgment on whats the best median.

I think, given the way releases at TFM occur (often quite suddenly) the format of this thread is quite appropriate. until recently Ed was only working part time, TFM was his hobby and he had to fit it around his day job in construction.
He has recently invested in new equipment to increase his rate of production and the materials he can offer. the research into plastic casting is still ongoing and plastic TFM models may still be a long time off... there's a lot more chemistry involved than Ed first anticipated.
Because of the learning curve of using the new equipment along with the task of transferring the existing product range to the new molds Ed has become somewhat backlogged. he has just about caught up and his bench should be cleared (i.e. everything molded up and on sale) by the end of February.
the first couple of months of 2010 should see the release of around 50 models and kits. I'll compile a list of everything that Ed is toiling on atm.
i know that Ice's mutants, mercs etc. have not been sent to be cast yet. Ice is waiting for Ed to get up to date so they'll not likely see release untill march or april, same with my own stuff.
as for prices...i can only really comment on my own sculpts. Ed works out the price of a kit with the sculptor based on a wide number of factors.
i'm hoping that Warmonger (the big scary demon) will sell as a full kit with all the options for a little more than the forgeworld demonprince of khorne (about GB£ 50) and a cheaper basic version. I'm hoping to release the manticore for about £25-30.
they're just estimates at the moment. final prices are often determined imediately prior to release. we do try and price things competitively.
the changeover to the new hardware and techniques may also affect the prices (most likely in a good way) but it is too early to really say (Ed has a better idea, numbers aren't my thing)

I would do both. Keep this thread for WIP but when something is done start a new thread announcing it.

Simply put no one looks at all the threads on this board and a thread with 10 or 20 pages is even less likely to get new readers. A new thread with a clear title (Cultists now available!) will bring in new folks.

Also reposting painted pictures in the gallery can get attention for people who look there.
