I am looking to see if there is a basic skeleton warrior/undead footsoldier set that is better than the one from GW. Mantic's are also a little odd looking, so no GW or Mantic. I'm just not all that wild about those and I so LOVE the shambling undead horde as an army concept.

Is there another company out there that makes a great set of skeleton soldiers? Plastic is preferred, but anything is worth a look. Just no strange "arms akimbo" poses, please.

Thank you in advance!

Who makes the best Undead? Dracula!

That said, for Skeleton hordes you basically need variable plastic kits which are rare, as metal Skeletons usually only have 3-5 different models. Apart from GW and mantic, I only know Zvezda with their Roman Legion themed 28mm Skeletons that are not really an alternative. So I would recommend using GW or Mantic (both not bad at all) plus maybe some non-GW heroes.

Really? You don't like the Mantic ones? I've got a load of Mantic Zombies & Ghouls (both sets are compatible to get extra variety) to use as cannon fodder for my 40K Nurgle army and they're the most 'realistic' undead I've seen. Not sure about the skeletons though. The best ones I've seen that I sometimes use for bits modelling (i.e. skulls and carcasses for other models) are the old plastic GW ones although I'm not sure you can still get these - try e-bay.

In the frozen land of Nador they were forced to eat Robin’s minstrels. And there was much rejoicing.

Ooh! Ooh! How about Wargames Factory's 'Myths and Legends' skeletons?

Spiffy looking models, and you get 30 multi-part models for just $20.

Gamezone. Certainly from the point of view of their undead/skel/vampire knights.

Their infantry isn't bad either.

Technical point - Ghouls aren't undead. I don't like their Ghouls, but I don't like GW's Ghouls much either. Their zombies are better than GW's, though probably due to the fact that GW's were one of their first multi part plastic kits really, really show their age.

That said, the Mantic core units aren't bad. They're certainly better than the rest of Mantics undead range.

Their skeletons are cheap, but the models themselves rub me the wrong way. I'm a huge fan of GW's VC Skeletons - tons of detail, goot proportions and a lot of extras on the sprue. They're just fething expensive.
