Also depends on the chapter. Space Wolves, though perhaps not for the sake of nutrients(but for the sake of the company/festivity) scarf down red meat and mead and such. Like I said though, I think it's more of a tradition or festivity thing than a nutrients-acquisition thing.

I believe some chapter out there(Ultramarines?) drink fine wine as a tradition, too.

I'd imagine nutrient paste is most common, though.

In addition to the nutrient paste, local animals and armour-recycled body waste, some Chapters (such as the now-excommunicated Sons of Malice) also practice cannibalism - though this is more ceremonial rather than a primary/regular source of proteins.

In the field they recycle food in a paste form, but they probably eat normally outside of battle.

Can't they eat everything? One of there "crazy why do they have that powers" is that they can absorb the memory of people they eat, so every now and then they take a bite out of the enemy.

For the most part, recycled bodily waste.

Tough as the Space Marines are, I can't really imagine even they would live on their own recycled waste in preference to other options.

They can eat pretty much anything, but they only eat what they need to, which isn't much considering...

Tau Brains so that they can pilot their vehicles. Duh.

Outside of combat, food. In combat situations, food paste. In extended combat operations, recycled body waste. (Yes, really.)

I was just thinking about that. It's a rather silly image. Because tau are about half the size of SM, so I see them all hunched down inside of a cramped cockpit trying to pilot the thing by two fingers because their hands are too big for the controls.

I think the power armor works similarly as the modern day spacesuit. It recycles bodily waste and turns it into a tasteless nutrient bar. However, they eat this only when in a battlefield or when no other foodsource is available. So, in other words, they eat their own crap during a deployment and a feast when they are on their homeworld, strike cruiser etc.

That said, perhaps "eating" is the wrong word there - isn't that stuff directly injected into their bloodstream or something? Basically this.

I am not entirely sure about that, personally I always thought that they just opened up their backside armor and inside they would find the paste which the system in their armor has recycled.

That's another option, yes. Wouldn't be recommendable on a world unsuitable for human living conditions... Then again, I don't suppose they Marines would be out in the open "24/7", and even a Rhino might be sufficient to allow taking off the helmet.

I guess we'll never know for sure.

What does a 400lb Space Marine in Power Armor eat for breakfast?

Anything it wants.

Considering his strict timetable the food had better be really compact and full of nutrients. A marine trying to live on grass and greens will spend the better part of the day eating. How so, you say? Even our "regular" bodybuilders sometimes find eating enough to be more like a job than anything enjoyable, and they're not quite as large and muscled as I'd imagine a marine to be.

It is mentioned that marines can go for extended periods without eating, without even the recycled paste made from their own excerment.

so either Marine's somehow do not require as much energy to maintain their body weight, or they are able to store copious amounts of energy for the purpose of extended periods of starvation.

With their increased bulk, its possable that Marines might have interior fat deposits for the express purpose of energy for lean times. most likely stored around the various organs in their main body cavity. some sort of super fat cell could have been designed to store fat and other essential nutrients.



I imagine that marines eat alot of food when they have the chance. the Space Wolves certaintly do. Initiates recieving the implants and growing probably eat an enormous amount of food to build up their bulk.

Now, the food could be pretty bland in the case of some chapters. like the Imperial Fists and other hard lined chapters, who probably eat nutrient paste and nothing more. other chapters probably eat regular food, like the Ultramarines and Space Wolves.

Anyone who thinks the only thing they eat is recycled waste.

It says in their dex that they can eat anything, so why not rocks? At least theyd never run out...
