Like the title says, I wanna know what you guys think of the next installment in the resident evil series.
In this thread, let's discuss some new mechanics as well, like the infection, which has my interest, or the triple edge battle of umbrella vs. zombies vs. spec ops vs. umbrella. You even get a choice of getting to kill leon s. kennedy, thus, preventing resident evil 4's story from happening.

You have a while, it comes out in 2012.
I love the gameplay, being able to move and shoot, and you have 2 armies of enemies to fight, that are fighting eachother.
I love the infection mechanic, because it makes the game realistic, being bitten, and turning into a zombie.

I really like the idea, I'm just afraid that the execution might not be that great. While the premise is cool, it seems more like Dead Space due to the ability to move while aiming and the larger numbers of enemies.

Its being developed by Gaijin (horrid westerners) so it wont be a true Resident evil game, more likely a dead space clone.

I know what the word means, and it isn't a polite word to use. What I am not sure is if you really are a Japan = better person, or just being satirical; one is amusing, the other is just kind of sad.

I think that most Japanese made games are usually overhyped and are dieing out, look at Metal Gear Solid. It was great at first but then they slowly took the stealth element away and then decided to make an action game out of it. Devil May Cry, can't speak too much on it because repetitive hack and slashes with some puzzles in it don't really interest me, same goes for God of War though. Dead Space is a lot more like Resident Evil than Resident Evil 4 was as another example.
Nintendo ran out of ideas which is why they rereleased Ocarina of Time and Mario Kart on the 3DS which is probably the third time you could get Ocarina of Time. They even had to reduce the price of the 3DS because it wasn't selling so well.
I would rather stick with series like Ratchet and Clank or Resistance, at least they don't mess up their own franchises.

That, and japanese games have a bad reputation of being too easy, like the .hack games and the shin megami tensei series. Also, perkustin, if you don't even play the touhou games, you have no room to call anything gaijin.

I wouldn't know about them being too easy, I would say average. Japanese games are just franchises that start out fine and that usually end up becoming worse and worse overall, like the Final Fantasy franchise. Like I've said before though, the MGS series was probably the worst decline I ever saw.

Both of your examples sold better than their Jap counterpart, and I'm sorry (no I'm not), but Resident Evil is just a terrible series to begin with...
And lets not forget that Capcom (Both Resident Evil 4 and DMC's creator) loves to exploit their playerbase.....

I can vouch for the Final Fantasy series but MGS was one of the best damned video series I've ever played hands down. Now granted, there were a few head scratching moments (MGS2, eh it wasn't that bad to be playing Raiden and it fit the story.) But I disagree with the statement that it went from a stealth to an action game, its pretty much emphasized stealth for all four games as far as I can tell, the thing is in the third and fourth installments, you've simply got more options (Do I sneak past these guys or just shoot them?)
Also want to take the time to say that RE is a decent series, its had some flaws in it (like the standing shooting thing) that are frustrating, but overall I liked playing them...
Oh, I'm also the only person I know who actually thinks RE5 was a good game...

Warork, MGS4 was the first Metal Gear Solid game to reward you for killing enemies(via their little credit system for buying weapons and such). Then they added the octocamo which was like, "Okay, you suck at sneaking so we'll make it easier for you.".
And haven't you heard about the new Metal Gear Solid game that they're making? Metal Gear Solid: Rising(Lightning Bolt Action), sure they added in a little thing saying "sneak in" but from the title and its added "Lightning Bolt Action" I will guess that it will be a fast paced action game, in all speculation maybe a DMC clone.
Sure RE5 was a fun game, but it wasn't a Resident Evil game to me. I remember playing the first one on the Playstation and comparing RE5 to that, they're different games completely.

And? I enjoyed that part of the game, to me they balanced the old style of stealth and sneaking with something that would appeal to more action oriented gamers, in turn, that improved the game in my opinion, I'm of the opinion that MGS4 was one of the greatest games ever created, it had the right balance of sneaking, action, story (which a lot of games dont have nowadays) and mechanics...I'd list something I didn't like about the game but there just wasn't something I could find.
Yeah I've heard about the new MGS...the one about Raiden, he's a cyborg samurai of course he's going to be chopping a lot of things in half, what's wrong with that? I think it looks fun.
If Capcom kept belting out the same type of game for RE over and over, they'd be cited for being unoriginal, we'd practically be playing a line of remakes...so of course they're different games, that's the point, in order for the games to be sucessful they have to come out with something new and fresh but at the same time retaining familiar facets of the RE series, something I thought RE5 did well.

I didn't like MGS4, I would sit in the camp all day raising alarms just to get money for new weapons because I could. I would've preferred if they had kept weapons hard to find only necessary for certain parts. In MGS2 you got one of their machine guns just for your costume, and in the beginning you started with the tranquilizer gun. In MGS4 you could buy a musket if you wanted to.
RE5 was pretty good and a fun game, but it wasn't a true Resident Evil game to me. In fact it felt closer to a Gears of War minus the cover system.
If I play MGS, I want a stealth game, not a hack and slash like Devil May Cry. If I wanted to play Devil May Cry I would play Devil May Cry.

I'm unsure why you keep comparing Devil May Cry with MGS...they're two totally different play style games...different genres even.
I guess the reason I think MGS4 is so good is because I played the line backwards, starting with the fourth one and going back to one. My older stepbrother was into MGS long before I was and when MGS4 came out he introduced me to the series. I still think MGS4 is the best installment.

I'm talking about MGS Rising, its probably going to be a hack and slash like DMC.
The first MGS I owned was MGS2, the first one I played was MGS. MGS4 was a bit of a downer, and to tell the truth I got to the second boss before just saying I didn't like it and gave up on it.
