hi everyone
so i was thinking to maybe try to make a true scale space marine,
so i would like to know what sorts of bits from space marines i could use, what kind of plasticcard, the tools for sculping the greenstuff and the
yellow/blue ratio for the greenstuf

and if you have some tips for me, be sure to tell them because im pretty noobish with the greenstuff

anyhow, thanks and cya later

If you are planning to use green stuff on a "True scale mini" Im afraid you will need hundreds of dollars worth of it. Model bits would also be too small to even recognise.

What you need to use is foamboard and sandpaper, and slowly sand away the parts, then you fiberglass it. (a search on google will help with foam sculpting and fiberglassing).

Hope this has helped!

I think he means True Scale in another sense. The Adeptus Astartes are supposed to be the pinnacle of human revolution - which means they are quite a bit larger than the "normal" humans in the fluff. Yet modelwise, a SM is the same size as a lowly IG-Soldier. So True Scale is meant in the sense, that the SM Model is made larger to fit more with the fluff.

made me giggle!

Sort of depends how much you want to do in the way of modelling.
If you just want them to be a little taller you can slice marine legs through the shins then add a bit of green stuff/plasticard to the gap and smooth out, then do the same through the thighs.
Its simple but just adding height to space marines seems to make them more imposing.

ps. found this image in dakka's gallery. A more complex way of making a marine taller.

edit
also found this, whcih is more the way I was describing

Hi Skotter, Ive been watching and looking at this site for a long time but after seeing your post I thought I would finally sign up and make a contribution!

Ive been working on some True / Art Scale Space Marines (a deathwatch kill team) to help me learn how to use green stuff! before the project started I had no idear how to really use green stuff.

So what do you need? well I used

Normal green stuff (more yellow then blue to help get a smooth serface) Clay shapers ~ Used to help get a smooth finish and I think its 2mm plasticard (I found it in the pages in a old book and seemed to work)

Below is some wip shots of a Art Scale Fleash Tearer

as this is a ongoing project and I have finally signed up to the site I will make a post in a moment with the rest of the wip KillTeam.

Hey , that first pic is from my gallery I really should try and finish that guy someday.

If you want to see some great art scale check out the master of the forge site. This guy is a true scale master and he has tutorials on how he does it. Great stuff...

Hope this helps.

Sorry guys, I've never erally heard the terms true scale before, but now I know. (Kinda embarrasing) haha. Anyway, just ignore my previous post, sorry about my noobishness!

Gave me a good chuckle

The best thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's far too late to stop reading it.

probably the easiest way is to cut the legs midway through the thigh and midway through the lowerleg. Preferable in an area that is smooth with no detail. much like the one in Carters second picture. Cut out the lower torso section and roughly double its height. cutting the arms through the bicept and forarm. I would suggest .8mm thick plasticard sections for the limbs. the weapons, powerpacks, and shoulderpads should all be fine. Some disagree with the shoulder pads, but I disagree they dominate the model.

I have a true scale space wolf project that is currently on hold. I have a blog about it, but as I said it has been on hold this past year.

You can take a look at it here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/283233.page and maybe it will help you out.

Chapterhouse Studios sells a true scale kit, which is basically resculpted legs and torso. It also include shoulder pads and a backpack, or you can use the official GW pieces for those if you like them better. You must supply weapons, arms, and heads yourself though, and sculpting ability wouldn't hurt if you would like to make them look better.

They only sell them via email for the time being ( sales@chapterhousestudios.com ), but you can see some pics, etc. here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/306818.page

If you decide you want to do it all yourself (good for you!) then have a look at bolterandchainsword.com . Search around for true scale and there are tons of guides to doing it.

Mostly, it involves cutting the mini apart at the joints on the legs and between the legs and the torso, as well as cutting the shin and thigh armor. Once you have the mini in a bunch of pieces, you insert spacers and reattach them together. Then you greenstuff to fill in the gaps and make it look like a single piece.

Another option is to use terminator legs and resculpt them so it looks less like termie armor and more like power armor. Generally, most true scalers leave the rest of the marine as is (some use spacers to make the torso wider as well), since the arms, etc. usually work perfectly with true scale(although some place spacers in the lower arms to make them slightly longer).

@AesSedai Your blog is wicked, those models look boss. I seriously think that truescale marines are some of the sickest models you can ever field, so long as they are done well. Whatever happened to the project?

@ TheBlueRedPanda

Thanks, man! I got caught up in hunting for confrontation metal models, hit a big career phase, and then the Dark Eldar came out.

Not to worry, I'm right back to Space Wolves as soon as my DE are done.
