Hey, I just tried my hand at putting together a 40k list for the first time. Please take a look at it and tell me your opinion. Tell me what it's lacking (speed, anti-tank, anti-infantry etc), and what it seems to excel in.

Looks like a good hammer/anvil list with the Nobz + Trukkers as the mobile assault power and the Shootas/Lootas/Kanz as the firepower anvil.

Couple of things I'd recommend, but overall it looks solid:

1. The BW is your only heavy armor on the table. It's going to take all the anti-tank firepower from your opponent until it's destroyed. I don't believe the Kanz will divert much as they're slower and only AV11. Consider consolidating your 2 Trukk squads into 20 Ard Boyz and purchasing a 2nd BW to carry them. This doubles your heavy armor and will cause your opponent to either split his fire and weaken its effectiveness, or focus on one and allow the other to make it through unscathed. 20 Ard Boyz will make a more solid backup to your Nobz and the BW will keep them alive longer to reach the enemy.

2. Your Nobz squad could use a little work. I'd recommend taking Cybork Bodies rather than 'eavy armor as you want a way to protect from power weapons/fists that ignore FNP. Also, you need at least 1 Bosspole in the squad in case of morale checks. The kombi-rokkit and TL shoota are rather useless on their own, I'd either drop it or make them into kombi-skorchas.

Thanks man, however I've now re-editted the list (which actually makes what you suggested even more possible) and I'd appreciate a new look. I have fixed up the Nobz, changed around the BW and Deffkoptas, and am now 200 points short of 1750.

However it makes me consider whether I should go for 1750, or just 1500. Whats more popular/common?

Ok well I updated it again, made a little more mechanized, but confused what to do with the Warboss and the footslogging unit. Should I attach the warboss to a unit of boyz (minus 1 boy) in a trukk, or can he be attached to the Nobz as well as the Big Mek?

Or maybe a big mek with another random squad of boyz.

And which squad should be footslogging? Shootas or sluggas?

Looks like a nice fast force, only a few comments:

- I like to give my warboss a cybork body because that 5++ has saved him so many times in close combat and its fairly cheap
- You should change your nob squad over to a troop slot because your wb makes 1 nob squad troop instead of elite, that way they are scoring too
- Toss your warboss with the nobs he will help make them and him a nice unstoppable force because he will now get fnp from the painboy
- Sluggas are foot sloggers because they like to run in the shooting phase while shootas like to shoot
- Personally not a fan of the Buzzsaw on deffkoptas but thats just me because i like to keep the deffkoptas far away as possible because they get clobbered in assault (big bombs can be fun but not always practical)

Other than technical issues looks like a fun list and i hope you have fun playing da boyz

I think you should definitely up the amount of boyz in the squad. They only benefit from mob rule if you have 11 or more, so if 2 die you're susceptible to bad morale rolls.

I dont play with full nob squads, but as said before i would change the nobs to a troop choice

Agreed with Seasnacks that a Cybork Body is preferred on a Warboss.

I would trade the RPJ for RR. Being able to charge through cover and difficult terrain and re-roll 1's is priceless.

Thanks guys, I removed 2 Deffkoptas to give me some more points, and now I can use both Deffkoptas as suicide units, speed them up and send them into CC with a vehicle with the Buzzsaws.

I added Cybork body on warboss, reinforced rams on Trukks, also gave a Boarding Plank to the Trukk with Shoota Boyz, since I haven't decided yet if they'll be getting out of if I'll use it as a moving weapon platform, so it'll allow the nob to go and PK a tank nearby.

I'm not sure on any of this, please give me tips, I'd definitely like to have more models instead of upgrades but I'm not sure.

First things first, as a new player, welcome, and that is a very intuitive list!


Yes, he can be attached to the Nobz.

I would attach him to a unit of Boyz in a vehicle. Spread out your threats.

1500 is more common to play at, but a lot go 1750 or 1850, so it doesn't hurt to have a couple expanded lists available.

For the extra 200 points:

I would add another trukk mob(and I use RR's to blaze through difficult terrain and/or gain cover saves in it)....those are better for splitting away from the KFF.

Add a coupld more nobz. As it is, you lose two before you start deciding: Painboy or PK.

I'd be tempted to drop the 30 boyz for another trukk, and/or start loading groups of 20 into BW's.

Whoa, that list is alright. All the upgrades are fine, no wasted points on crap miniatures or upgrades. Although trukks are normally considered non-competetive. But it could be so much better if you multi-task less. With orks you should stick to one theme. Be it battlewagon brigades filled with deffrollas and gunwagon units, speedy trukk and junka lists, or groundslogging kans and meka dreads. Stick to one theme, that's what orks are about.

Kanwall is a very nice and common list, nine kans and a load of boys. Backed with deffcoptas lootas and a KFF. Brilliant for tournaments and low budget armies.

Battlewagon spam is also a common list. Very, very, very common. Mainly as it is a lot of fun to play, but it is not too shoddy tactics wise. Get as many deffrollas onto the field of battle as possible. Although pricier than kans.

Green tide is the rarer army. Very expensive, hard to paint and hard to shift around. Although seeing your enemies face as you ship in 100+ boys is priceless.



As for your list, I would say replace trukks with wagons. They are much better. And drop kans and footsloggas.

Or drop wagons and trukks, replace with more boys and kans. With rokkits to make the most of BS3.
