Since there was a question about the Demo in Q&A I thought I'd put this up.

Right now on Steam, if you preorder Space Marine you get early access to the Demo (which is apparently available now cause I can install it). Since you also get a free copy of Darksiders, I figured wth and forked up $50? Of course this is ignoring that it's a little backwards to buy the game to get access to the demo but I was probably gonna buy it anyway

Instead of making a new thread...

Beaten the Demo on Normal, playing on hard, has anyone figured out how to use the Vengeance Launcher yet?

You can't Map keys from inside the game, which is annoying and took me a while of button mashing to learn the Q is the grenade key.

Early impressions are, it's fun can be a bit of a challenge (Nobs will wreck your face in a heart beat) not a fan of being able to carry four guns but maybe that was just for the demo.

Bolt Pistol - Worthless so far, I've yet to run out of ammo to where I need to use it.
Bolter - As you may guess, the go to gun for pretty much everything
Stalker Rifle - Sniper Rifle, not all the useful, but I use it to drop a magazine into Nobz before they curb stomp my face
Vengeance Launcher - "R" appears to detonate the grenade. Grenade Launcher that does. decent damage, allows you to lay a few down in bottlenecks or stick em to green skins.
Grenade - "Q" Key, they seem to pack a bit of a punch, but rather small explosion.

Assault Pack - Good times if you enjoy face smashy type game play.

Overall, I used the bolter 80% of the time, they can remove the Stalker and Vengeance as far as I'm concerned, their rather nitch guns, even when playing on Hard. The grenades could do with a bit of a boost, but the convenient ammo crates you find laying around everywhere I can understand them nerfing em a bit. The ammo crates are going to make fluff fans cry foul a bit, why would the guard randomly stock crates of the Astartes guns and ammo, then just leave them chilling on a battlefield, not a fluff lawyer but pretty sure even the bolter ammo is supposed to be sacred and yadda yadda, but still, action game.

The game plays more like the old Quake and Doom games, it's more action based then realism based, which seems to be the trend for games lately (Battlefield, Modern Warfare, ect) I'm glad to see your not unstoppable, I died a handful of times, to either Mega Nobz (or maybe they were just Nobz?) and a few hoards.

Overall the game is pretty fun for mindless violence and killing in the 40k universe, I'd like to have a bit longer of a demo, but I'm greedy like that. No MP to try out sadly, but I can see it either being awesome or horrible.

If the game is worth the $50 is still debatable, but I'm not to worried about getting my monies worth.

The vengeance launcher is essentially the sticky bomb launcher from tf2. Launch a few grenades, then detonate them all at once.

What's wrong with carrying four guns at once? Hell, I remember carrying nine guns at once. Man, those were the days... stupid modern FPS convention limiting you to two or three guns...

Hah, I'm more of the realism type game player, and at least they could model where the extra guns are going. But it's a minor gripe.

And I think realism can go suck a rotting lemon if it gets in the way of fun.

I deeply enjoyed the old Quake/Duke Nukem (not the new DNF style) of guns, where each type of gun was assigned to a number on the keyboard... 1-9 and sometimes 0 for the superweapon or a trip mine or grenade... usually went in order from easiest to find to hardest to find, making it easy to keep track of what you had the most ammo for, too (IE, in Duke Nukem, I believe it was 1 = pistol, 2 = shotgun, 3 = Chaingun, 4 = RPG, 5 = pipebomb, 6 = shrinkray, 7 = expander, 8 = devastator, 9 = trip mine, 0 = freeze gun).

Touche', I should have said game play style.

There should be another steam sale come December time frame, the may knock 25% off, 50% at the high end. You'll get a more polished game, but I imagine the MP community will diminish by then, so sorta a crap shoot.

I mean if you 50 bucks to spend, why not? Or you could buy like a box of 10 SM for that price and paint em blue then throw them at your buddies.

I do have to admit, I am not a fan of the Smurfs, but we'll see how the story line goes, that Movie didn't do much to improve my opinion on em, but maybe it's all the Ward hate from Dakka that has seeped into my system that taint's my view.

This game is a bit more adult then say DOW, it's fairly graphic, first time I curbed stomped an Ork I actually swore rather loudly, and colorfully over mumble to my buddies playing SWOTR, the Orks are also less comic relief in this and a actual legit threat, without the annoying voices.

I do wonder if their going to add some voice acting into the final game or not, it's sorta bland with limited combat quotes flying around, but you really can't hear much over your chainsword.

Ohh don't get me wrong, I logged alot of hours on Quake and Unreal Tournament online back in High School (or was it Jr. High...) and the over the top type of game play was a blast to play, I found Brink had a good compromise for me. It's just with already set types of fluff and lore be it 10ft tall power smurfs, or what's supposed to be modern day/past combatants, Battlefield, Red Orchestra, DoD, ect. I just prefer the game play to match what's sorta out there. With Duke, Quake and UT, it was a stylized lore for a stylized game, so it fit, same with TF2 or MNC, bit of a silly game with silly game play.

But with this game, they struck a pretty good balance, I have some gripes, but nothing is ever 100% for everyone, it's good mindless violence that at least makes a nod to where it came from.

You could also use the Left foot with every weapon(including the Right foot, meaning you could kick with both legs at the same time!) using another key, but I forget which one.
