Why does the imperial guard have a tank named after the space wolves primarch??? I never understood this, why doesn't the blood angels, or salamanders have a tank named after their primarch?

Its because Russ was an all around awsome guy, loved by the common man.

the Tank also shares many qualities with Russ's personality and physical stature.

Its also rumored that it was Lemun Russ and the Space Wolves that discovered the STC for it, and naming rights go to the finders.

Yeah, like I said in the OTHER thread last week asking the same question. Russ is the kinda guy who would be giving everyone high fives and free beer.

His basic fluff and the Character of the Space Wolves themselves. they emulate their primarch in character and overall attitude.

Do you have any solid evidence to the contrary?

Mostly him being an unstable savage in the only material I have ever seen elaborate on the Primarch himself, A Thousand Sons.

Now, admittedly, I have only read A Thousand Sons, and haven't been able to acquire Prospero Burns yet, but that's kind of why I asked, I was wondering if in that or any other work he himself was portrayed as anything else. Since there's nothing that really states Russ himself was this super awesome cool dude in the Space Wolves codex.

its just that there are so many stories about how much of a great guy Russ is. the common people adore Russ, only Sanguinious is more adored.

Vulkan is certaintly more of a people person and Russ is a rough and tumble guy. rough around the edges, but a great guy all around.

Space Wolf stories, no doubt? Of course the Space Wolves would revere their Primarch, I mean, I myself have never seen objective evidence of Russ being a "great guy."

Way back when in the old RT days, Leman Russ was an Imperial Commander and you could put IG tanks next to Space Marines. Just like US and UK tanks are named after generals, so was the Leman Russ tank. The fluff has changed across the years... the name of the now iconic tank, has not.

He pitched an ever loving fit about the GK's cover up of the first war on Armaggedon, pissed them off, and secretly smuggled some of the populace out to avoid their cover up fate. Also hence the GK and Sisters tension with the Space Wolves. The long teeth and shagginess doesn't help them either.

He is generally the guy who cries BS on Imperial Policy. Which is also why I think he left, to go kill chaos, cause he needed a real enemy and politics made his puppy mind twist in ways he hated.

And as far as the topic goes, IIRC Russ and the SWs helped the guys on Mars find the STC and defend it, so they credited it to Russ in his honor.

True, the Space Wolves did throw a hissy fit over the whole thing. I think its safe to assume that Russ would have had a similer view.

The "citizens" of Armageddon that Logan Grimnar had protested to their slaughter were the valient Guardsmen that fought tooth and nail for their world but had "seen to much" by the GK's standards.

And Prospero Burns (from what I've heard, not an expert) does put the Space Wolves in a bit better light, playing to the reverse idea of A Thousand Sons, in which the Thousand Sons are played as semi-innocent or at least less psycho.

In Prospero Burns I have heard of a few references that might show that Russ had a semi good nature to him, at least OUTSIDE of war. Because Primarchs were built as generals, it can be hard to judge how much of a people person one can be on the front lines. -shrug- My take, of course.

It was named for an Imperial commander. Then that commander got retconned into a primarch and GW never changed the name.

On abit of a side note,

Why not name a tank after a Primarch?

especially a rough and tumble one like Lemun Russ. LRBTs are rough and tumble, Lemun Russ was rough and tumble. lets name it after him.

Oh. My. Emprah.

The LRMBT was named after a Guard General named Leman Russ.

Later on, the said name was used for a primarch.

On a side note, the only reason most people view wolves as Angry Puppy Marines is because of their own army's fluff. When in fact, in Prospero Burns, Russ acknowledges that his Legion is the most brutal but that is because the Emprah needed them to be his "excutioners" of the Space Marines. They (Space Wolves) in-turn take after a more Norse-like tradition of seeming barbariac but in reality have an organized structure and such.

And for the haters on Russ, haters gonna hate and that puts you in the same boat as Rawbutt Girlyman and Ward so ha. ha. ha.

This is my Leman Russ. There are many out there like it, but this one is mine. Without it, I am useless. Without me, it is useless.

I thought Russ protected the world that the tank was built on from atk. So they named the tank after him. U guys also got to remember that the Land raider was at one point the main battle tank for the imperium.
