So I am torn between what new army I should play. It's between Eldar and Tyranid. I know it really comes down to personal preference but id like some pros and cons of both armies. What do you guys think? Plus what would be your recommendations for certain units that you think are a must in these armies.

Eldar: Glass cannons. Finesse army. The strategists force. Speedy. Psychic powers are great. Very specialist units, you will always buy more eldar as their units are just that specialist. Can shoot and do melee excellent.

Tryanids: Hordes or monsterous creatures, or a mix. Relay on synapse for most units. Big old bugs stomping stuff. A melee force. All kinds of tricks for the units, you more or less just go for melee though all day every day.

So do you want a force that can handle most any situation, shooting and/or melee with psychic support and being very speeded or do you want to ground pound your opponent with nids? I would say eldar aren't the easiest way to start the game, but if your confident then go for it.

It is worth noting that the Tyranids have the best Psychic shooting attack, for destroying vehicles, in the game. this is called Warp Lance

The anti infantry PSA is really good too, which is Warp Blast.

You gotta be smart with nids; nearly impossible to beat IG with em if your opponent knows what he's doing.

Eldar is better, more characterful and more fun to paint. Notice I didn't say easier, though.

I've played eldar since I started and loved them. I was considering starting to build up a nidz army but, alas all i've done is buy more eldar. It's an addiction

Well do you want to play mech or horde?

Personally I like my stealer army better than the omnipresent tervigon lists that are being thrown out there, but its dramatically different than mech'dar.

Eldar is not easy to master for the beginner. But it can be very rewarding if played correctly. I'm a long-time Eldar player and battled Nids a countless number of times. Unless the opponent (Nids player, like Hulksmash) is very smart, Eldar will come on top.

Keep in mind the REALLY AWESOME UNITS in both armies, and their look and feel.

Do you want your centerpiece to be a massive predator, or an awesomely-looking agile warrior?

Also, IMHO Tyranids are easier to paint, because no-one minds if you've got a few splodgy gaunts. Depends on how much effort you want to put into painting them.
