I have a question for all you dakkaites out there. What do you think is the best all around transport in the game?

Personally I'm going to have go with the chimera. It just has so many goodies that come with it all for 55 points. front armor 12, two guns (one of which is strength 6!) a transport capacity of 12, mobile command, and 5 firing

points! It can transport and still perfrom light tank duties afterwords. And don't forget that it's still AMPHIBIOUS!! Theres just so many great things about it and I love using it.

Beat me to it!

I'd have to say Valkyire/Vendetta for it's role as both transport and gunship, it can carry 12 models and if the Dice Gods favor you you can deploy the troops whilst moving flat out.

But point/efficiency wise, the Chimera wins.

"War is not violence and killing, pure and simple; war is controlled violence, for a purpose. The purpose of war is to support your government's decisions by force. The purpose is never to kill the enemy just to be killing him but to make him do what you want him to do. Not killing... but controlled and purposeful violence."

Raw effectiveness goes to the humble Wave Serpent.
Points-effectiveness goes to either the Rhino or Chimera. Rhinos are basically the points of 2 more Marines for being able to shuttle across the field, and Chimeras are awesome in a can with AV12 and 36" shooting.

Seeing as how both of my regular DE opponents rarely fail their flickerfield saves, I have to throw in Venoms as a suggestion. 12 poisoned shots at 36" does a lot of damage.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

On moon miranda.

I'm surprised by the limited responses in regards to the Chimera and Valk/Vendetta.

In absolute terms, probably the wave serpent, but if you factor in cost effectiveness and force multiplier capability, Rhinos and Chimeras.

Wave Serpents are too overpriced to compete with something like a Rhino in this category.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Im going to say Land Raider, as a transport, it will get its juicy cargo where ever you need it to be, with little to no damage to it or the said juicy cargo,

my juicy cargo happens to be Sternguard with combi flamers and meltas, whatever is in front of the LR when they pop out is going to die, no ifs, ands, or buts. It has never failed at this, which is why LR gets my vote

It is without question the Razorback, with the Raider a very, very close second.

Wave Serpents might be hardest to kill, but they don't fulfil the basic functions or exploit the vehicle rules anywhere near well enough to be best. They have no fire points, thus cannot be a mobile bunker, and cost too much to have lots of them. They cannot be assaulted out of either, thus making one of the most common uses of a transport very difficult.

The Razorback, on the other hand, is laughably cheap, and the BA and GK versions are far overpowered for their cost. The Raider is probably more effective as a pure transport due to open-topped, and would be better by far than the Razorback if it were AV 11 and thus immune to small arms.
