Went to see cowboys and aliens at the weekend with my wife (good fun film BTW) and a trailer for space marine was on. As soon as it ended one guy at the back shouted quite loudly "we are spess mehreens"

A lot of movie theaters show commercials before the trailers. I've seen a video game trailer once or twice, but I can't recall what for off the top of my head.

I've seen video games in our theaters, too.

It started with coke and car commercials a while back. Now, anything is fair game. Tampons, hemroid creme, and acne medications. You're a captive audience, now.

They do over here too.

Usually though they're the "Big Name Games". Kind of glad to hear that Space Marine is getting that treatment.

Sounds like they knew the audience to advertise to.

I think the first video game commercial I saw in theaters was God of War.


That was a few years after the first car commercial I saw at the movies, which was probably a cadilac commercial with Tiger Woods.

I remember thinking it was odd at the time, and was hoping it wouldn't last.

I was wrong. It lasted.

The first video game commercial I saw was for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for the PC. (I assume it was right before seeing one of the Harry Potter movies)

Cracked.com actually did an article that mentions these ads before movies. Something like how they can suddenly make a lot of money off advertising, because now you (the consumer) can't fast-forward through them like you would at home with TiVO or DVR.

I actually take this as an opportunity to discuss the stupidity of some of the adverts with my friends. Trust, me its even funnier when they're all in Swiss German and you have no idea what is going on.

Thats just awsome.

I know they show commercials, I've just never seen one for a video game. The only commercials I've ever seen are for cell phones, food/beverage items, cars, or personal hygiene products. You know, (theoretically) universal appeal products. I've never seen one for a video game.

Oh, and of course we can't forget Army recruitment ads. Been seeing those forever too.

$25au for a standard, non 3d movie on a small screen.

It sucks over here.

I usually see movies during the afternoon so the price is cheaper
