Hey guys

Been thinking about the webway and how it would work. Is it a physical realm? If so how do you think it looks? It has to be massive as space craft use it.

Plus everything must be close together otherwise it would take you a lifetime to get somewhere.

Has there been any wars in the webway itself?

Thinking it could be a cool way to end a campaign I am planning having an inquisitor and a group of deathwatch enter it.

The webway is actually kind of like warp travel. Basically it's a network of tunnels running through the warp to protect the travellers from the dangers of it. It's also kind of a maze not many besides the Harlequins, and perhaps some of the Dark Eldar, know their way around it too much.

It's a physical realm. The walls are physical, it has dimensions and laws. Some tunnels are large enough to hold entire cities, like Cammoragh, some are barely large enough to fit a human in.

It's like a realm outside of the material realm, a long series of tunnels that lead to each Webway Gate. It's far faster going through it than any other means of travel.

Not as far as we know, it's entrances are jealously guarded by both varieties of Eldar.

Several parties have entered it in the past. Inquisitor Cevek, and Ahriman of the Thousand Sons, have both breached it to try and find the Black Library.

Czevak.

Of the two, ONLY he has been allowed INSIDE the library, and then only into the kiddies section.

It's like the network of tunnels and caverns underneath most modern cities. Some tunnels are only large enough to crawl through, some are large enough to drive small vehicles through, and some you can stage a 3000 person rave event in.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

I always thought that it was built inside the Warp, stabilized by some kind of walls.

the Webway is partially in the warp and partially in the physical realm.

I like to imagine the Warp as an ocean. the Webway is a series of bridges and platforms going over the ocean, which is full of maneating sharks and other nasties. the physical realm is a massive chain of land. all connected, but its faster to go over the bridges.

The webway really is like some kind of weird in-between, a pathway "through" the warp, stabilized by physical walls, but not really part of reality or influenced much by the warp iteslf. You can theoretically find webway passages while in the warp and breach them, as
Spoiler:
Magnus did to communicate with the Emperor more quickly
but at the same time, it must be virtually impossible. A ship plying the warp seems to be in no danger of accidentally running into a webway wall from the outside and wrecking itself or the webway passage in question. You're also never going to even detect a webway wall in reality, just the gates at the ends of each tunnel that connect to our dimension.

It's an extra-dimensional maze of tunnel through the warp, constructed by the Old Ones using abilities no other race has since been able to copy. So use your imagination I guess, because I have no idea.

The webway has been redefined and extensively described in the Codex Dark Eldar, as the Dark Eldar live there.

Parts of it have been known to collapse or become unstable, and i'm fairly sure no-one knows everywhere it goes since the Old Ones died out.

Pretty neat stuff

Dunno, just remember reading somewhere, most likely the Eldar codex something along the lines of "no one alive knows all the routes of the Webway, for that knowledge is long lost, but there is said to be a map deep inside the Black Library that details all the hidden routes of the Labyrinth Dimension"

So 2 maps?

The one I remember from BL:

Spoiler:

Escaping from the Black Library of the eldar, Czevak steals the Atlas Infernal – a living map of the Webway.

Quick question dose the webway have other inhabitants (other species or creatures who live there not just travel through it) I know they were created ever before the eldar or dark eldar for that matter, so could or is there a race that mastered the webway (the webway is a nice fluff bit for creating a new race or army idea if you wish)

They have various psychic creatures, like the ones in A Thousand Sons, the Psyechnuien (Or something like that). Basically, they were psychically sensitive flying insects that reproduced by implanting their eggs into a persons brain. They infested the ruins of Prospero's ancient civilization.

I don't really know to be honest. It's likely it was the same map.

Part of the webway is iinfested with Donorian fiends, and i think the DE codex mentions other critters in there too. I don't have it to hand right now.

The Emperor had a plan for it, be interesting to know exactly what his intensions were.

Use it to travel without needing the risks of Warp Space, therefore negating the Chaos Gods?

Use it to move fleets aroung quickly (implying parts of it are huge), so easier to defend territory or open up more space for Crusades where warp travel would take too long?

Use it too wup the Eldars ass?

So that's what lives in the webway huh

I thought there was only 1 map of the webway? I'm thinking it's not a pen and paper map as such, more of a moving map, that re-adjusts itself when the tunnels collapse, oh and what do you know, the imperium stole it, good grief, why do they.....*hates on BLs love for the imperium*. Because you know, 1 guy can totally rob a library full of harlequins

I think it's been hit on the head though, it's a series of tunnels that run through the warp, without actually being in the warp. The bridges analogy by Grey Templar is how i see it (and a great analogy to boot)
