"As of 8/1/2011 Battlefoam has decided to no longer allow us to purchase their products. We will be discounting all of their items until they are gone. We don't agree with their decision and we have looked far and wide for a replacement product line with great success.

We found KR Multicase, who specializes in high-quality affordable carrying cases and foam for all of your miniature needs. Unlike Battlefoam, their product comes at roughly half the price with equal or superior quality. Next time you need carrying cases for your minis be sure to check out this line."

I wonder if this means that their newly opened Battlefoam UK center and Wayland have an exclusive selling arrangement now.

After reading that, somebody's got their hackles up.

It's simple really.
MM discounts everything.
Battlefoam doesn't want sales to a discounter undermining other shop sales, or sales to their own site.

I do think the MM notice was a bit intentionally antagonistic.

I think the foam makers need to get together in a caged ring and just beat each other with their trays until one stands victorious over all.

Do you know how hard it is to beat some one to death with a foam tray sans metal minis?

Not saying that I have done it of course and I would appreciate it if you stop digging around my rosebushes.

Is someone actually following GW business strategy?

Stop selling to middlemen who may discount product....check.

Next they'll begin making a foam sponge hybrid which will be the best product in the universe, but sadly will cause plastic and metal models contained weighing to disolve into Goo.

Lastly they'll stop showing new items to us until a month after they're released.........

Genius.

Good luck to MM. No reason to talk up BF, and more reason to talk up how much "better" their replacement product is.

There seems to be a lot of producers around who don't understand what RRP means. Doesn't Wayland discount as well, though?

I know that as part of the agreement to buy from Battlefoam, I signed an agreement to not discount product more than 10%. I'm assuming MM signed a similar agreement. If they violated it, that might be the reason for BF dropping them as a vendor.

Battlefoam have done some really weird things in the past so it wouldn’t surprise me if they started to do this. Battlefoam already imitate GW when it comes to legal action…

Battlefoam does not = GW. That said, Romeo won't stop until GW endorses his cases or they sign an agreement to make cases for GW.

Battlefoam = Really, really, really wants to be GW, and owned by GW.

I'm not in the market for any of their stuff at the moment. If the product is going to be expensive, I want magnets, not foam... until that point I'll stick with my cheap KR card cases.

Not a huge fan of either MM or battlefoam..

Shopped at MM when they were located near me, but stopped going there when I could no longer take my kids in because of all the profanity being tossed around the gaming tables, mentioned it to the employee who looked at me like I was crazy. As for battlefoam....well let's just say I read romeos side of his legal action and saw quality of his product vs competition. That combined with watching my opponents faces when I played imperial guard and would throw, not gently toss, my dead soldiers into the cardboard box of shame when they died was priceless, means that I don't have much use for his stuff.

Good luck in the foam wars to both sides...just realise if the battle spills over I don't throw foam back

I dont see any foam wars here, just a conflict between a vendor and battlefoam... I also dont see battlefoam at the warstore ( biggest us vendor?) or maelstorm one of the 2 biggest vendors in the uk? So I assume the contracts are not satisfying at least, for one of the parties... but if you sign it then you better do your best to respect it.

Stuff like this happens all the time... If your a store and your going to sign an agreement with a company, then you violate the terms of the aggrement then you get what you deserve.

I actually read a very interesting article on how discounts are severly hurting the hobby, and how they may be atleast partially responsible for relativly recent price increases. I'm going to have to see if I can dig this up.

I saw this on MiniatureMarket's website yesterday, but decided not to post it here thinking it was old news on here. Guess not, assuming this is indeed the first thread for it!

These seem to be the most enlightening posts so far:

That makes about as much sense as saying that online piracy killed the brick and mortar record stores (i.e. it doesn't make any sense).

The world is evolving, either you evolve your business model with it or you are going to be left stranded behind.

I like MM for their prices and service.

MM is a business and so is Battlefoam. If MM signed a contract and then decided not to honor it then that's bad form. If they didn't sign a contract and BF doesn't sell to MM because MM's discounts, that's BF's perogative and by all rights can say they won't deal with MM.

However, if MM is selling something less expensive that is designed to do the same job as Battlefoam product, they can state that. Is KR Multicase cheaper than Battlefoam? Yes it is. Is it better? That's up to the consumer to decide. Remember, it's selling! Even GW upsells and puts its' products in the best light possible.

Off Topic: PhantomViper is correct. The world is evolving. Had I an FLGS locally that treated me right, I'd gladly spend my money there instead of online. Online sales are a bonus to me in that I get my product sent direct to my home and at a discounted price. The two FLGS in my area doesn't seem to want my business due to their shoddy customer service. A third FLGS is fantastic but is almost an hour away. I try to buy two or three items there each time I go to help them with sales but the travel is killing me.

As a connoisseur of all things warhams drama, I think I can safely say that ain't no flame wars like a Foam Wars© flame war. I am eagerly anticipating much foolishness all around.

Exactly. It's a shame MM decided to turn their backs on the local STL community and go online only.

The "online discounters ruin everything" argument is crazy.

As a company, you set your own trade prices and sell your products to trade at a price you are happy with.

Whatever RRP gets set by the retailer after they have received the stock is entirely up to them and how much of a profit margin they want to maintain.

As far as the manufacturer is concerned, once the sale has been made to the retailer, that should be the end of the matter, sale made, product shifted, who cares whether the retailer runs a discount? It's not going to make the manufacturer less money.
