Hi there, i was wondering if there are any chainsword/sword and laspistol arms available anywhere because i plan to run two close combat "mobs" of 20 kriegsmen. The command pack from FW is way too expensive for just 2 (non power) swords and 2 laspistols, i would have to buy like 20 of them.

I don't think that GW makes any sets that have that number of close combat arms (lest your into getting one las pistol per sprue of guardsmen in the Cadian boxed set). You could use the Empire Milita arms sets (which have weapons that would fit the more desperate trenchers amongst the Death Korps) and add pistols from another range; ie Hasslefree minitaures and a load of other companies produce revolves and the like. If you can get a hold of them there's a good few sets of loose arms from the Necromunda range that come with pistols and close combat weapons....if you can get a hold of them.

And your needing 20 of these guys because....? Sergeants?

There is one problem with death korps and that is they are a bit smaller than normal herioc scale miniatures and have more realistic proportions thus making regular guardsmens guns and swords oversized. I do have numerous cadian bits left over but they just doesnt look right.

In DKoK list any guardsman may swap his lasgun for a laspistol making him have a CCW and a pistol. Aloing with their WS4 and stubborn with a commissar backing them up and feel no pain from quartermaster thay are actually quite good in close combat and can stop even units like wyches for couple of turns.

I suspect WHFB plastics will be the easiest source of hands with swords.

Laspistols will be harder, unless you can work out a way to convert a lasgun into a laspistol? Most of the laspistol sources I know come only in ones or twos (e.g. the ancient Necromunda plastics had a few laspistols) Maybe just look for pistols that look right for DKoK and say they count-as laspistols?

All the plastics from GW are too big. I might use catachan combat knives (they are pretty bid) as swords maybe.

If i were to convert lucius pattern lasgun into laspistol it would maybe look good with lots of cutting. I might try to make one but still the arms for kriegsmen are positioned so that they look REALLY wierd with pistols and swords.

I also got an idea of making bayonet attached lasguns count as pistol and CCW... the reasoning is that bayonet disturbs shooting accuracy and fire rate (halved range, only one shot, assault)... what do you think about that? (regular guardsmen have got CCW in their basic equipment as well)

The Empire state troopers or flagellants arms may work ( I think that they may be more appropriately scaled), but if the Death Korps are scaled anything like the Cadian upgrade sets it may better better to look at miniatures of a smaller scale (like the plastic Perry Miniature box sets). Don't the Death Korps troopers come with arms attached? It may be a tad difficult to convert twenty of them appropriately, perhaps just using another companies German Trenchers minis may be easier (and cheaper)?

Oh and on an unrelated note; there's some greate models from Reaper Miniatures that would work well with DKOK (they do in fact produce a Commissar model with a power fist to my recollection)......if you can put in the effort to go through their extensive range.

I already have the kriegsmen at home. Ill check out the Perry miniatures. DKoK come as torsos with legs and head attached. Hands are mostly right hand with gun and end of left hand attached to it as one part and rest of left hand as second part.

Ill look for reaper miniatures as well.

Why do you need CC arms when you have... BAYONETS!

Ah right, then those guns would be hellish to convert into proper pistols (bloody stock being part of the handle) and the posing of the arms really could only work with halberds or the like 9would would be arather silly now wouldn't it). Wargames Factory produce guys with Trenchcoats that are compatible with the Cadian arms, but you'd probably want to change the heads so they don't look so Helghast/Jin-Roh like.

Im now not in position to make any bigger investment so i think i will just stick with the bayonets and maybe greenstuff them a little more closecombaty look. Anyways thanks for advice.

If money is the issue, try shortened lasguns (call them "las-carbines"?) with bayonets - so long as they look significantly different and choppier than lasguns, I think most people would be happy for them to count-as laspistol and close combat weapon.

Just checked, and I do have 6 spare plastic laspistols - PM me if you're interested in buying them.

Thanks for offer but standard plastic laspistols are HUGE compared to krieg ones.

Have you tried so more historical kits? I would think that those could provide a quantity of trench knifes, bayonets, E tools, punch daggers and what not. Also would think that you could use the pistols if you don't mind slug vs. las.
