For me, he's just not good enough. He's alright and pretty good. However not worth a landraider to me

I would say in that low of a point game he isn't worth it. Yea he can cast 3 powers a turn, but chaos really only gets 2 good ones. So you really can cast 2 and then have a force weapon. At that point you might as well spend another 25 points and run abbodon. If you are playing a fluffy thousand sons army, then you might as well run him.

I don't know the people you play, but around where I play there is more than enough physic hate to go around. personally I would run either a prince or lord, or another named character. If you stay away from typhus and ahriman you shouldn't have any problems. It comes down to run him and see if he can actually do any thing. But there are better choices that you can run.

I would have to agree that he's probably not worth it. Whilst, yes, he can pack a lot of shooting/psychic power, he's pretty vulnerable, expensive and very vulnerable to perils for example. Add to this the weakness of most CSM Psychic Powers and the abundance of Psychic Defence and I'd agree he's not worth it in most cases.

In a serious list? No. However he can be fun in fun builds like so:

2000-ish?

I once made this right before a game against Demons, and destroyed him; just haul ass into him, then start Gifting anything that's interesting. It gets pretty awesome with all the spawn running around. Definitely not a serious list, but it can be very fun once in a while to keep things fresh.

He's an entire unit's worth of good shooting. He can also account quite well for himself in assault, what with Warp Time and a force weapon.

He's not a top-tier chaos guy, like Kharn, but he can be pretty good.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

He's interesting, and here I'm damning with faint praise. 3 powers is nice, but other heavy psykers in the game can do the same. And if he's facing Psychic Hoods/Shadow in the Warp/Eldar Farseers Helms, that just means he'll have 3 chances to fry himself and not cast the power.

Add that to the tragic lack of Eternal Warrior and the few actually worthwhile chaos powers, and he's meant mostly for fluffy high-point lists. If he was priced at 160-170, like a psyker equivalent of Kharn, I'd take him. Otherwise....

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

Honestly I think what would make him worth his points is disabling psychic hoods/other psychic defences in a radius around him. Making him better in a Thousand Sons list with other psykers with him. Call it Storm of Change or sommat.

Change and change until Change is our master, for nothing neither God nor mortal can hold that which has no form. Change is the constant that cannot be changed.

No game of chess can be won without pawns, and this may prove to be a very long game.

Yeah... oof. But theoretically, Ahriman _could_ beat Mephiston in an assault via Force Weapon. But yeah, thats not good.

If meph fails sword, then fails to instagib ahriman, and then ahriman wounds AND gets his weapon past the hood... so pretty much superlucky haha

That would make Ahriman a happy lil guy... but alas, he is forever condemned to Gifting 3 times a turn....

That's some long theory. No matter who charges, Mephiston will go first. If he gets his power off, he'll be hitting at S10 and insta-killing Ahriman on the first failed save. He'll be re-rolling all hits and wounds on our favorite sorcerer as well, and his Psychic hood will halve the chances of Ahriman's Warptime, Gift and force Weapon. And he'll need a 6 to wound.

Theoritically possible. But honestly? If you can pull it off with Ahriman, odds are you could do it with a Tau drone.

Might as well spawnify him and be done with it!

Gift of chaos is a pony with one trick. A trick it can't do on command. Be aware that you have to be within 6" AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR TURN! This gak don't fly against a solid opponent. I've been playing a Thousand Sons army for almost 4 years and Ahriman always stays at home. I'd CONSIDER him if his points cost was halved.

As said by Sephyr, he's no match up against Mephiston. Moreover, he has no psychic protection which sounds a bit strange for being a would-be first-class psyker.
