Ever since I saw SENMM i've been dying to give it a go and after reading the Making of Magamtrax tutorial here
I thought that's a good recipe, I'll have a stab.

So here's a wip piccy. The leg isn't finished or anything but should be far enough along to give an indication as to whether its working or not.

What's the verdict, shiny gold or just some weird yellow and brown colour scheme.

Any thoughts on how to improve it? I think maybe the yellow is too yellow and perhaps the brown is too brown, any hints would be much appreciated.

I think it looks fantastic. NMM of any kind is really difficult to paint due to thte fact that for the duration of your project your eyes will be playing tricks on your mind. NMM projects look like crap for the most part until you have completely finished the painting work. Only after the last highlight is applied will it look good. That might be what your experiencing now...but the project looks incredible to this point...nice work!

Thanks Element, I think I just cant tell anymore as I'm the one painting it. Need fresh eyes.

I'll keep going for now and see where it takes me.

I definitely recommend perseverance through your project. The way it looks now, you've got the right highlights and the contours of dark and light areas look amazing! I would really like to see this Wraithlord completed.

I have a Blood Angels army that I have finished for now but will eventually come back to do all of the NMM details. I did experiment on Capt Tycho's melta gun (pics in my gallery) and it came out well...but I wasnt satisfied with it until I finished it, put it away and took it back out weeks later....it looked great to me then. You seem to be keeping the gradients of color blended nicely and the most important part of your project is making the lines between the dark and light highlights very crisp, the whole project hinges on that. But keep going with it, your doing a great job!

I do not paint NMM, but I paint my metals in a NMM fashion using metallics. Dont put 2 shadows next to one another, and dont put to highlights next to one another, always work shadow, highlight, shadow, highlight as much as possible.

In the picture you posted above, the area between the kneecap and calf, there are 2 shadows coming together, it looks like there might be a hint of a edge highlight separating them, but it needs to be more pronounced.

Also, for a really high contrast effect, shade all the way down to black, and all the way up to white, the wight and black need only be in a small spot, but it will really give a high contrast which is what NMM needs.

Thanks for the advice, I completely painted over the previous paint job, changing the recipe and some of the horizon lines.

What do you think? Does this say SENMM gold?
