So we have had a Favorite Characters, a Least Favorite Characters, so I figured we should have a Favorite Bosses thread. I think we already had one of these, but Search is down, and I can't double check. Sorry if this is indeed a copy.

Anyway, who are your favorite bosses from any game?

My Three absolute favorites are:

Legion is just creepy; he's a ball of corpses and he lets some of them fall to the ground, making you have to contend with them if your playstyle demands it. Not to mention that some versions of him have his corpses screaming as they fall, and he is definately a boss for a Late Night adventure.

The Hive Mind, while surprisingly simple to fight against, is pretty pulse pounding as well.

And the Satan fight from Castlevania, Lords of Shadow is pretty dang intense, and also a pulse pounder (Pay no attention to the fact that this dude has everything and has the biggest powers in the game.)

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

The all time best bosses, Every boss from Rule of Rose.

and some more great bosses are:

Resident evil 5, Final form of the last boss, I gotta say this one just because when you and a partner have the L Hawk and the S&W .500 with infinite ammo, I didn't know its impossible to knock him into the lava before you trigger the cut scene.

Lost Planet 2, Every boss. just the scale of all of them makes it fun.

Boarder lands... of course. shouldn't need to say more than that.

Hitler from Wolfenstien 3-D

And the final boss from Duke Nukem 3-d or 64 depending on console.

There are a couple of boss fights in the SNES version of Chrono Trigger that are fun to play, just because of the bad translations in attack names. My personal favorite was the beast in the Magic Cave who had a great attack, which he initiated by shouting "Yes indeed!"

For sheer entertainment value (how many games can honestly freaking say that the final boss is a battle with the POPE), the end "boss" of Assassin's Creed II, where you get into a fist fight with Rodrigo Borgia, the freaking Pope.

Probably Dr. Nefarious from Ratchet and Clank 3.

Spoiler:
You start of in a small arena, as is standard, then he runs away, across a battlefield, whilst firing a death ray at you, so you have to fight the hardest enemies in the game with a death beam firing at you.

Once you get past that, you have a small arena battle again which is ridiculously hard, due to the sheer amount of things flying around.

so, you hit him enough, and think it's over, and he collapses.

Or so you think, he's acting and gets his butler to teleport him into the big death sphere that you came to stop.

you'd assume that he's just going to shoot you, but no, the death sphere transforms into a GIANT FREAKING ROBOT. about 50 metres tall, which you have to hop into a hovership/car/turret and destroy.

even then he doesn't die, he gets teleported onto an asteroid, only to be the villain in another game.

While cool looking I found that Reaper rather disappointing as he was too easy to kill :(

This is a true boss:

Not only looks sweet but an absolute pain in the ass to kill. I had like 100+ battles with him b4 i could kil him.

Wesker From Resident evil 5 it makes you work as a team to kill him or you use the rocket launcher to kill.

Tali'Zorah: I appreciate what you're doing here, Shepard.
Commander Shepard: Well, I care deeply about the quarian people.
Tali'Zorah: It's good to be back on the Normandy.
Commander Shepard: Let me know if it's too quiet for you to sleep, and I'll find you someplace louder.
Tali'Zorah: Hmm.

Radec from killzone2. Radec's the only boss that kept me fighting him for 30 minutes. I just can't kill him in under 30 minutes. I dunno why, but I enjoy long fights. I'd rather fight a boss for over 15 minutes, then woop his ass like a boss in under a minute. There's no fun to that.

Agreed, but along with that the boss has to be presented well; Take the Hive Mind from up top; you fight it AFTER learning you've gone insane, and it's easily the biggest thing you've fought in the game, and it's done when the sun is setting; you know this is the end, either way.

Same with the satan battle; middle of a sandstorm in the desert, on top of a giant pillar, sun is setting (constantly is, due to magic), and half way through the entire screen goes near pitch black.

Give me a good long fight, but also present it well,

mjeah, Radec comes and dissapears, comes with the experience, but also looks a bit wacky. The bosses from Jack 3 are also nice. (you know, the Jack and Dexter games. I have all of them, and I can still enjoy them when I dust off my old PS2)

If we're going on sunsetting/dawning behind someone on a high place, I'd go with Tribes 3's final boss.

Agreed on Jak 3.

It's also why I like the Biggy Man from Splatterhouse; dude has two chainsaws for arms, and he occasionally disappears only to come flying out of the darkness with them revved and out for blood.

Oh yea, Iv remembered another badass boss that I loved:

Not only is the battle long(although somewhat tedious once it reaches phase 2) it takes place in the best place possible imo.

Spoiler:
Then you find out he isnt really dead and have to fight him in his dragon form which isnt as a good fight as his human form.

I like long fights, but not ones where it takes a million shot to kill the boss, but he can destroy you if he hits you once, otherwise I just wouldn't be able to be bothered to beat it.

See, that's why I loved the Satan fight in Castlevania; he DOES kill you in two hits, but you have infinite magic, and you become full health in two hits; basically, you have to hit him twice and can't let him hit you twice. Couple that with One Hit Kill mobs, and it's intense.

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.
