So I want to paint my army, but I'm lazy. How to fix that? The answer: Post what you have painted online and promise to have more painted next week!
So I'm going to post what of my army is currently painted for the viewing (dis)Pleasure of mah Peeps, the Dakkites (am I spelling that right? I don't think I am)
I am only showing models that I have FULLY Painted. Most of my crisis suits are painted, just not fully. The paints used are AppleBarrel (blue, Light Blue, Gray, and orange) and Games Workshop (Graveyard earth)
Yes that is a Cigar box the models are on top of. It is my Bitz Box.
Let's start with some Fire Warriors: Two Squads of 6
Next are some pathfinders: two squads of 4, half of them have plain helmets to show different sqauds.
My painted Pathfinder Devilfish (flanked by Unpainted SMS)
My Piranha
Now my painted Broadside: Three pictures.
For Next week's Pictures, I will either be finishing my Crisis Suit Teams or finishing my broadside team (Including my ForgeWorld Broadside!) I'll let my Fan(my parents don't count ) decide.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Sorry about the Double Post, but I have now my first project: I will be moving my Shas' el from a Flying Base to a Regular Base(and Painting him).
My Shas' el on the flying base is meant to look like he is just lifting into the air(it didn't work out that way, but that's how I meant it to) so one of his legs are not perfectly straight
While going though my bitz box today, I found a 40MM base AND the Necron Scarab Stands I never used back when I played Necrons (Lo those many years ago)
So I trimmed the sticks off of the stands and glued them to the base. They are now drying and later tonight, (or tomorrow morning before work) I will try to glue the Shas' el on the base using one of the little rocks to try and even out the other leg so he stands straight. When I paint, I will also use this opportunity to try and make a simple Dynamic (Contradictions? I say Nay) Base for my Commander

The Shas' el was a bit of a pain to get on there, but I always get what I want, and I wanted him on that Base.
And today I just got a bad itch to get the FW Broadside Painted, so I primed him today as well.
This is a picture of the broadside outside. No turning back.
Tomorrow (after I am sure the glue is holding) the Shas' el will be primed, and I will begin the base coat of Folk Art True Blue on the FW XV88

So After 5 hours of Painting, My FW Broadside is complete.
It took me 5 hours to ruin the model.
I've never been so depressed.
In all seriousness folks, I am a little Disappointed with my work on it today, mostly the Shoulder with the Tau Empire Symbol on it. I tried too hard at it, and over corrected on it, making the whole shoulder blotchy. I do like how I did the Symbol itself though.
Anyways, Pics and as always, make sure the fruit is rotten before you throw it at me. Hurts less.

So I bought three new suits.
When will GW ever get the Mold for them right?
Every time I buy them, the Jetpacks don't fit right, like so:
I used to remember a Fix for it, but it's been a while. Who remembers a fix?
Other than that, I have just been working on those three. They'll be finished tomorrow morning (unless I decide to paint the Shas' el because I don't want to fight the plastic Jetpacks)

My friend did a similar color scheme for his tau, it's awesome. He painted them a Hoth style snow way. I very rarely see Tau in blue but it fits them well and they look cool. Basing them with snow would be sick.
I painted someones fire warriors once in the standard brown kind of color. I found it really useful to use a Micron pen for the lines of the gun. Contrast looked awesome and it was way easier then inking the lines or painting them. Id check out some of the pens. They have just about every color.

Thanks mate. I used a similar Paint scheme on DOW with Tau. Just kept hitting random until I found something I liked and worked from there.
BTW What I decided to do was after I finish painting my suits and make my next Purchase from GW (either Kroot/Devilfish/Piranha/ Finecast Ethereal [future objective Marker]), I'll just throw in some Greenstuff as well and fill in the gaps and paint the greenstuff when it drys. Not a great plan, but it'll look better than suits with giant gaps.

I was going to say the way to fix gaps is greenstuff, but you obviously figured that one out. I do like the blue color, but the only critism I have (and I mean it in a helpful way not hurtful) is that the painting - from what I see - could be neater. I'm not sure what you have to work with, but may I suggest a finer detail brush and perhaps some mini oriented paints like Vallejo. They have a great color range, the dropper bottle is very convenient and they spread like a dream.

So I have a treat for you guys this post:
I will be showing you super secret painting techniques that you will need to know, if you are stupid enough to glue un-primed bits to painted models (Like me).
So to start this post off, I will be showing off some XV8s that I painted when I first started playing tau (some of which I never finished, but that part later. )
This was my command squad back when I ran shield gens on everything.
As you will see: the multitracker on the left is not painted and the Plasma Rifle on the right is grey as well. There is a reason for that. I'm an idiot and did not prime them before I added them to painted models. The one in the Middle is my old Shas'o.
This is an old Firestorm squad that I turned into deathrains after a freak accident (protip: Don't learn how to drive stick with your army in the trunk of the car.), but I had enough arms and missile pod bits (and 1/2 of a Smart Missile System) to make them my new Deathrain squads.
Now these are all the models I primed today.
and here is the super secret painting technique I promised!
How to prime additional pieces on your Models:
What you will need:
A spare Brush(it will soon be ruined,so make sure you don't need it)
Primer
a Spraycan lid
Models with pieces you forgot to prime
After you get all of your supplies outside: Spray some of the primer into the Spraycan lid.
Dip paintbrush into primer. Apply to models, but make sure you do it quick, because the primer dries fast( or mine does anyways)
and one more picture of the crew into good lighting indoors:
Now before I leave ( I can see a few of you getting ready to hurl rotten tomatoes.) I have hammered out a schedule for the next month.
9/11/11-9/17/11: finish Crisis Suits
9/18/11-9/24/11: Last broadside, start kroot
9/25/11-10/1/11: Finish kroot, start Piranha
10/2/11-10/8/11: Finish Piranha, start devilfish
10/9/11-10/15/11: Finsh Devilfish, start Hammerhead
10/16/11-10/22/11: Finish hammerhead
10/23/11-10/31/11: Start New project.
Anyways have fun, hope you enjoyed the post, and as always C&C is appreciated.

Anyways, I had to work a double today so no painting was done, but I heard a demand for kroot, and it shall be sated!
I do have a couple primed kroot models I am very proud of that I could show off.
The first is a powerfist Kroot with a Boltgun.
*Queue the song "I'm too sexy"*
This next one is my Kroot Shaper (when I use a shaper)
Try to name all the bitz I used.
*Queue the Song "Psycho Dad"*
Yeah the pictures suck. I've been taking them on my phone. The models will look better painted and the only reason I have been putting the kroot off is because it's two weeks until next payday and I need to buy some more kroot/ paint for said kroot.

Miss me?
This has been a terrible week for the hobby.
Today, by sheer force of will, I made time to paint the broadside. Finished him up and a pic is below. You can tell I forced time to paint him by how bad he looks compared to the other two, but I needed to get back to painting and the poor Broadside was punished for it.
New Broadside
Squad of Broadsides
The reason this week was bad for 40k is I bought my first vehicle. I wanted to practice driving Stick before I wanted to risk driving on the highway, so I spent most of the week doing laps in the parking lot of a nearby middle school. Now I am driving and life is back to normal, painting time has begun.
I'm still waiting for the rest of my Kroot and my other Devilfish to arrive in the Mail from GW, so we will have to postpone kroot for now and move to Piranhas.
I have one primed Piranha with a burst cannon that I will be switching out the burst cannon for a Fusion blaster, with a pair of clippers. Hilarity will ensue for everyone but me when I lose an Index finger doing this.
Also, I will be getting back to regularly posting in this thread about whatever I do painting/ modeling wise, because I have a big project that I'm planning for Halloween and I need to get in the habit of constant updates (again) now, because I don't want anyone to miss the Halloween Project.
Anyways, As always, C&C is appreciated.

I lied. Today, while organizing my Toolbox that I use as an Army Transport, I noticed I had Shield Drones to paint!
The one on the left is the GW Shield Drone. On the right we have a drone I made using a Shield Generator and a Gun Drone. Filed down the little bits where the guns would go, glued the shield generator to the bottom and drilled using a Dremel tool until I hit Sunshine.
These are the same Models after listening to Saturday's episode of 40k Radio.
Since my paint order (and Devilfish) will be arriving tomorrow. I have been thinking how I want to do the Kroot.
I'm thinking Bestial Brown (one of the colors I ordered) for the Skin, Dark Blue for the Gun/Armor bits, Light Blue for Cloth, Grey on Blades and Bones.
I am also doing an Experiment with the Kroot, testing if my painting is better on the sprue.
These 16 guys are the control (already modeled and primed)
And these guys are the variable (still on sprue, primed)
Took three wire hangers to make something to hold the sprues while I primed them yesterday.
Anyways, tomorrow is going to be a LONG day. Also have Spiderman: edge of Time and RAGE coming out. I'm planning to get all the kroot done tomorrow, that way I can put the Graveyard Earth(another part of my order) to finish the cloth on the Pirahna Pilots. Expect an Update tomorrow evening around 10PM Central.
See y'all then. :3

He is my control for my painting experiment, since most people paint after putting the model together.
It all went well until I had to paint in a cramped space.
Some pics:
I did decide on a paint Scheme I like though. I really like how I painted it Scheme wise, just not paint-to-model wise.
I tried the control tonight. tomorrow (assuming I get home at a reasonable time) will have me fully paint the sprues and some more modeled Kroot.

Dry brush those bad boys with a lighter shade of brown or mix your current paint with a little white.(even better) Maybe even do sharp details on their heads with blue or something for more contrast. Or do sharp detailing on the edges and snuff out the dry brushing all together and those would look SICK! Looking good either way man. I still need to send you the pic of my friends techno hammerhead, maybe the coolest Tau paint job ive ever seen.

Sorry about the lack of updates. Today has been my first day off since I last posted and I've been working 16 hour days since then. >.<
So today, I cracked into the Devilfish that I bought last week or so.
After about 6 hours of straight work:
Would have prolly finished it tonight, but got frustrated after I popped the seats out putting the legs in. I popped the back hatch off so tomorrow morning I can set the seat back in.
My plan is to finish it in the morning, followed by priming it when I get off work. While it dries tomorrow, I will add some pictures of full squads that I forgot to take and finish the Pirahna and the other Devilfish.
anyways, figured it was better to post what I did today than go another day without an update.

My plan is to base coat the three by Friday. Have them detailed by Monday. work on Smart Missile Systems until my next order from GW arrives.
Speaking of Smart Missiles, I forgot to buy the Hammerhead weapon Sprue for my new devilfish, so they are being added to the next order just because I need them and have no more Missile Pods.
Anyways, model time. I kept to my promise of finishing the model before work and I primed it a few hours ago. Pics below.

So as you can tell if you have been following my blog, I am not good at keeping to my set schedule. To be fair I did put in the OP that I was lazy. >.>
Anyways I finally got around to basecoating the devilfish. Tomorrow( since I'm off) will be focused on Basecoating the hammerheads and starting detail work.
What will really happen is I will play tropico 4 nonstop tomorrow to try and beat it before battlefield 3 comes out, and I might basecoat one Hammerhead.
Anyways Pictures!
