The more I look into WHFB, The more I find myself being drawn to armies of Chaos; Namely Daemons. I love their models, their fluff, and the looks of the book's versatility. But to my dismay, it looks as if DoC are the most hated and powerful of all armies. This makes me sad, because i do not want to be deemed a TFG, but I really like the army (Although I FREAKING hate Matt Ward; Thanks for ruining 40k, dick.)

What should I do guys? I want to love my army, but there is no point collecting an army that people will refuse to play against.

Yes, DoC players are made to clean everyone's boots at the end of a gaming session.

Seriously, if you want to collect an army because you are attracted to the look and feel of the models, background etc go for it. No purer reason for collecting an army exists. And if you want to avoid being TFG, then don't field the super powerful army builds that will wind people up.

One trick to make people not hate a DoC army is to go mono-god... just a thought.

Yeah the mono god approach would be cool. If you just like the army fluff and all that, winning shouldn't be a BIG deal. Besides, playing with a disadvantage might make you a better general, who knows.

Daemons are still strong, but they're not the instawin button they were. They're perfectly fair and fun to play against in a competitive setting, and if you're a garagegamer then no one should have any problems playing against whatever theme you choose.

Daemons aren't nearly as overpowering this edition as last, feel free to play them.

Change and change until Change is our master, for nothing neither God nor mortal can hold that which has no form. Change is the constant that cannot be changed.

As others have said, Daemons of Chaos were overpowered in 7th edition, but in 8th edition they are just competitive. There are actually a couple of armies that I would classify as being more competitive than Daemons of Chaos.

As for the mono-god idea, I'd advise against this. Taking a mono-god army list usually results in your army lists lacking any sort of variety (Khorne is combat power, Tzeentch is ranged power, Slaanesh is dominance of the movement phase and Nurgle is VP denial play). It is not that hard to build a less competitive Daemons of Chaos army without going mono-god. Just don't take Bloodletters only as your Core choices and Flamers only as your Rare choices and you should be fine.

IMHO multigod armies are actually more fun to play against. Monogod armies have what, 3-5 unit choices apiece? Basically all you can do is spam one unit for each slot. I actually think the multicolored horde suits daemons very well aesthetically, certainly more so than color-coded 4 unit monogod armies.

I run a multigod list, using all but nurgle, due to lack of plastic. I enjoy it, but yeah dual units of flamers is not liked. I don't think they are overpowered. Some armies really give them trouble. Skaven and Ogres are two of them in my expierence.

I've never seen anyone reject a game against someone because of the type of army they play, well at least not in 8th ed WHFB.

I've seen people turn down games when they find about the specifics of their possible opponent's list, or their reputation in general, but never because they played Daemons or any other army list.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

A good general will try to find ways to overcome some nasty obstacles. For example I played against an amazing general playing one of his test games for a large tourney with his Wood Elves. Don't laugh because they are nasty, if played right.

I was trying my Daemons with a DP for a lord choice for the first time General was the Herald of Khorne. First Game he got me, the 2 treemen at 2400 is nasty. and a Treeman ancient is a super combo.

Second Game I was able to counter what did me in the first game and get the deamon prince into all the squishee stuff in the back.

Adapt and overcome.

The hate for Daemons is because they pretty much broke the last edition of Fantasy. They're not so bad now, though certain units will probably wind people up a bit.

When I saw deamons as my enemy, I was like, damn, bloodletters, I'm scr*wed, but I lost more models to the pink horrors, but it ended as a draw, and, if I ever saw that guy again, I would enjoy another match

Daemons are fine. Can you make 'em cheesy? A bit. But you can make a lot of armies cheesy. Monogod I think would simply be boring as someone said above. Even GW recommends against it in their strategy tips. You'd only have a couple of different unit types, which is rather dull.
