I was wondering, since it seems there isn't a sanguinary priest model. Can an apothecary be used?

You can always mix BA bits and apothecary bits together to make a custom priest

There is a model.

Easy enough to use a regular apothecary though as that is what a sang priest is.

I thought about that, the armpiece has a mini chainsword, I could give him a bolt pisto, and a blood angels shoulder pad.

Only real difference is that the Blood Angel's apothecaries have wings on either side of the apothecary symbol but that could be ignored or painted on.

Yeah, you're right, but, I had to ask, especially after that thread about proxies.

That's not going to be a problem, as you can easily cut the cast-off's wings off and use them on the shoulder pad.

Yes. You can use it...

Geezus! (not directed at you OP - This is a rant in general about some of these YMDC / WYSIWYG threads I see and how so many feel afraid to have one little thing not WYSIWYG) Who are these people that some of you (dakka members) think would object? How in the world could you play with someone so anal retentive as to say "Well I know your List says you have 10 DC and 4 of them have power weapons. But clearly that model there has a Thumderhammer, so I cant allow him. I am unable to comprehend that that Thunderhammer could count as a power weapon! THere fore I will not allow it."

If ever had a guy or gal complain as such, rest assured I would say "You're a douche bag." and bail.

Why would you want to spend 2 to 3 hours of your life playing with someone like that?

Rant over, sorry OP for getting off track.

I don't know which proxy thread you mean but the only aggro I see people having over an apothecary is if a regular marine model was used with nothing to show that it was an apothecary.
Or drink cans being used as drop pods, it's the big things that matter, not whether some model has a blood drop icon on him.

That's ok, I can't blame you, it seems there's a rise int the argument about WYSIWYG, just like the proxies, I have no problem if my opponent uses brettonians as space marines, but, those brettonians better have meltas and lascannons if it's on the list.

I agree, if somebody wants to make a game that serious, why bother playing them? It's so irritating how people try to turn the game into serious business.

It's in the dakka discussion board, it seems it makes a world of a difference to some players, sadly enough.

It's not a matter of simply saying no (I think this would be a very rare circumstance!), I just think it would cause confusion to have a TH count as a power weapon, especially if there are actual TH's being used in the army.

Think of it this way: you're at a tournament, and it's the third game of the day. Or, you're in the middle of a LGS where the music is blaring and the neckbeards are talking at you. Things are going to slip past you, and there's a good chance you'll play differently because you think there might be a thunder hammer in that DC squad. Instead of charging a Dreadnought into the unit, you avoid it and then get charged somewhere else. You can't blame someone for forgetting something that is not plainly obvious.

Playing a WYSIWYG army is, therefore, more of a courtesy to your opponent than anything else. You and your close circle of friends might remember which models are which, but John Smith who might only have a passing knowledge (if that) of your army may not be able to remember those little details in the heat of the game.

And I'll be honest, while I wouldn't say that you can't use your model, if I were to bring up the fact that your army isn't WYSIWYG and is therefore confusing, then it would be very poor form for you to call me a douche bag.

Using an incorrect upgrade weapon is completely different to what the OP is asking. Also, the reason you're seeing lots of WYSIWYG questions is that there's a big tournament going on where WYSIWYG is mandatory. In a circumstance like the one you describe where a t-hammer is being used as a power weapon the TO would be well within his rights to remove the model from the table.

Op - A sanguinary priest is just a blood angel apothecary. As long as your sanguinary priests are distinguishable from your sanguinary novitiates (assuming that you're using one) then no problem.

Thank god for death company and sanguinary guard extra bits, and the lovely shoulderpads left over.

Off topic but I was under the impression that sanguinary priests and sanguinary novitiates were the same?

Slightly different stat-lines.

Biggest difference is that sang priests are IC's and can be singled out in combat and have to be in B2B in order to fight but novitiates are not.

I did some quick conversion, removed the apothecary arm, gave him a chainsword, now there's no doubt he's a sanguinary priest.
