Lots of anti MEQ and anti light tank in possession of the tau making a GK win not easy, good luck though.

A Tau win should be on the cards here but yet again the Kroot should not help him especially with Cleansing Flame.

But he wants his kroot to get wiped so the Purifiers can get fired at rather than being locked in combat and unable to fire.

He won't in an objective game and even in killpoints it's a bad idea as he's just giving killpoints away to kill a few purifiers in a turn, if they don't get killed after wiping the kroot then the broadsides will follow.

Lists seem fairly balanced, IMHO. Tau has lots of anti-MEQ/transport, but those kroot are gonna be next to useless.

If tau gets really lucky and first turn he could pop all those rhinos and then some. Never seen a tau list look so formidable.

I really have to stop writing lists for people.

Everyone seems to say kroot are useless. I got to say it doesn't matter whether they live or not as long as they tarpit the enemy. It is kind of like the potato in plants vs. zombies. Just used to hold of the enemy for a bit.

This is EXACTLY what Kroot are for. Tau suffer because they don't shoot very well or very far outside of the broadsides. Thus they need more time to shoot, so Kroot are meant to just meat shield/tie up a foe while you shoot him to pieces over several rounds.

But this isn't what you want as a Tau player as you can't shoot into combat, eventually the kroot will die and if you're unlucky it will be their turn again when the kroot break out, and they won't tarpit all in this game with Cleansing flame, there is no need for hammerhand.

Probably work

I voted for Grey Knights, but now that I'm reviewing the lists a second time, I think Tau might actually have an edge here. I would have found points for a GKGM to give scout to a handful of the purifiers to have them try to outflank-suckerpunch the broadsides. Crossing the table, even with all those vehicles, is going to prove to be tricky.

I'm writing the report right now, and I can tell you there's a river going trough the entire board.

Here it is at last, the BR.

Mission: Seize ground
Deployment: Spearhead

Grey knights win Roll off, and elect to go first.

One squad of kroot outflank. His setup + Scout moves.

He attemps to seize, and succeeds. Damn.
In my turn, I'll rush forward and unload the purifiers, straight into his crisis suits. Specifically the ones with plasma rifles. If any dreadnoughts survive his first turn, then they will go into the broadsides.
His move.

Shooting: The white based crisis suits fire at the furthest right rhino, and they wreck it. Pink based broadsides shoot the dread behind, but both fail to even hit. Red suits shoot the rhino with the vendread directly to the rear, and he immobilises it. Orange based B.sides shoot the same dread that was shot before, and glances it once. Then he wrecks it. Damn AP1 weapons! Pathfinders markerlight a rhino. Broadsides then wreck the rhino.

His assault moves.

My move. I still have 2 dreads alive! That helps considerably. they will be going for the broadsides, since all the crisis suits have shield drones. Purifiers will go and unleash fire on the kroot.

Shooting: The purifier squad furthest forward shoots the pathfinder squad, and they got massacred. Hehe go psycannons. The normal dread shoots the broadsides, and 1 dies from instant death. The ven dread kills both arange ones. Ha! Take that BS 3! BS 5 is WAAAAY better! /gloat. And, starting from the furthest right purifiers do: 7 deaths, 6, 7, and the others aren't in range.

Godz buzzsaw got it right. Those kroot were useless. And me killing 3 broadsides was good as well. Seems to be going well for me so far.

His 2nd move: the kroot come on. On the left board edge.
(I forgot to snapshot his move, but you can see it in the shooting pic)
Shooting: The lone broadside shoots the normal dread. Misses. The pink broadsides shoot the ven dread, but only stunned it. HA! The red suits shoot the furthest forward purifiers, but fail to get past my armour. The teal suits shoot the rightmost purifiers, and kill the 2 halberds. The white suits follow suit, and kill all but 1 psycannon.

4 purifiers dead. That could have gone better lol.

My 2nd move. Dread passes fortitude. 1 unit of purifiers load back into the rhino and speed backwards. 2 more do the same.

Shooting: Purifier squad furthest left shoots the kroot. Can you say "Woodbok rolled really well and killed all the kroot?". Purifier squad in the middle shoot the teal suits, and both drones and 1 suit dies. Last purifier squad shoots the same unit, and another suit dies. Normal dread shoots them also, and kills the shas'el. Ven.dread shoots the pink broadsides, and does 2 wounds. therefore 2 dead thanks to instant death.

I had some INSANE luck there, killing loads of suits. I don't think he has a hope in hell now.

His 3rd move.

Shooting: Kroot shoot the rear of the dread, but fail. White suits kill 1 halberd, teal kills none, red ones kill 1.

lol, time for him to die.

My move.

Shooting: Purifiers shoot the kroot, and kill 5. When I assault them, they probably will die. Purifier squad left most shoots the red suits, and kill both drones and do a wound. Dread shoots them, and kills one. Purifier squads in rhino shoot the white suits, and kill both drones and a suit. ven dread shoots them, and insta-gibs both of them. The middle purifier squad in the formation shoots the red suits, and kill 1 suit. The right most squad shoots the last teal suit, and kills it.

(At this point, he concedes. It's turn 3 and he's almost wiped out.)

Post game review: I had some amazing luck, and even though he stole the initiative, I won big time. I think that rhinos and razorbacks are as good as each other though. Having said that I don't want grey kngihts. I'll go for a decent of angels list next. It will be a while before I do another battle report (2-3 days) since I have stuff to do. It will have my decent of angels army in it though, so watch out for it!

I think that bad rolling for him and good rolling for you really made it, but his static formations really screwed him.

Wow! I've played games like this with my tau, with even a similar list. It was a total surprise after even stealing the initiative that the Tau would get beaten up that badly at all. Usually, expensive small squads in massed rhinos is an easy victory for Tau. No matter what sort of troops inside.

His Broadsides had no Drones, also his Kroot don't seem to have had any cover so they went down really quickly.

Why did his Kroot outflank from the corner? Kroot suffer no movement penalties from the forest, plus they get +1 to cover! There is so much forest and none of his Kroot are in a forest, at any point!

Plus, his luck seem to have been truly terrible.

Mr Vetock, give back my Multi-tracker!

He failed a lot of 2+ saves this game. That is why broadsides beg to for drones. Actually, all suits (especially expensive fireknives) beg for drones.

Good Battle Rep and a Good Win for the GK's.

There was no way the kroot were going to be useful in this game bar taking objectives. The Plan to outflank the kroot was a mistake as there was not much he could do when he got there as there were plenty of Rhinos still mobile.

In Table Quaters there is little cover on the side you deploy in so that threw the bubblewrap tactic out the window as the kroot would die too easily.

While I always say this, If he took Fire Warriors it Would've been different!

Honestly this game was decided on the dice. A unit of 2 broadsides both missing? After the reroll? You know the game isn't going to end well when that happens.

I knew it wasn't going well when he failed 2 out of 3 2+ saves.
