Are there any IG Regiments that are based off of the American Military?

Cadians are probably the closest, circa WWII, I think.

Right on. I read somewhere that Catachans are based off the marines in Veitnam.

Yes, the Cadian armour is based off modern/vietnam/WW2 armour, but the tactics are based off of American WW2 tactics.

Cadian = 1990's Marines
Catachan = Rambo
Death Korp or Kreig = WW1 Style Germans
Tallarn = Middle Eastern
Valhallan = Cossacks?
Vostroyan = Russian

In all fairness I think Cadians are just a personification of "professional" militarism. For instance you can draw parallels between the Cadian Defense Forces and the Israel Defense Forces, even down to their appearance.

Death Korps also have a lot of WW1 French elements. They're really just WW1 in general. Valhallans are World War II Russians, Vostroyans are Cossacks. Cadians always struck me as more of a UN force. Steel Legion are patterned after WW2 German paratroopers, but are meant to play more like a mechanized WW2 army.

I haven't read a lot about the IG regiments histories. I need to though. I love America and it wold be awesome to have an American themed army on the table. I like the Cadian armor best for representing the U.S. Army.

Well, you can paint em up however you want. I've definitely seen IG armies painted as US military forces, using just about any regiment. I prefer to use Catachans to Cadians though; if I want my dudes to look like the US army, it better be the US army as seen in Predator and Commando

Right on. I like the armor of the Cadian troops. I wish I could paint little American flags on their armor.

I do believe at one point in time, there was a regiment called the First Merican Lancers. Take a guess at who they were based off of.

There's nothing stopping you but practice! You could even pick up a decal sheet for WW2 Americans or what have you and slide those on.

I did it with my IDF-themed Guard army, and IDF and US Military forces generally tend to fight in similar ways: generally deployed at the battalion level, with a heavy emphasis on heavy (mechanized w/ support) infantry with artillery, air, and armor support.

Cadians look the part. A head-swap and backpacks can give you basically what you're looking for in terms of visual appeal. In terms of gameplay, think Veterans in Chimeras, artillery support, CAS (Vendettas / Valkyries), and maybe a small Russ squadron at higher point levels. Bubblewrap is decidedly NOT in line with US military concepts, and though the IDF is a conscript military, it doesn't really utilize units of "conscripts" the way that the IG codex allows.

You could run it like...

Mech Vets = Infantry squads in Strykers / M113s / Bradleys.
OoTF = Experienced CIA officer.
Astropath = Experienced logistics officer.
MoO = Forward observer.
Vendetta / Valk = No real equivalent. Closest thing in the real world is a Hind.
Stormtroopers = SOF (SEALs, Marine Recon, etc.)
Russ = Abrams
Basilisk = Paladin
Manticore = MLRS
