This might be a silly question but I'm going to be using the hierophant in a game of spearhead later on and I was wondering if I am to use the 5th edition codex to update all of its abilities including Warp Field and Spore Cloud.

Does anyone know?

I can't remember which update it was, but I'm pretty sure spore cloud played the same as it does in the 5th edition codex, but warpfield only gave a 6+ invulnerable to the bio titan.

As I said though, I can't remember which book/update this was from

If the rules are included in it's profile, then use them. If not (Eg they say to look into the codex) then you can't use, since they don't exist any more.

Everything the titan has is listed somewhere in the 5th ed codex.

Folks will probably complain about Warp Field since it was improved.

The most common . . . complaint is "It has the Warp Field Psychic Power, but Warp Field is not a Psychic Power any more so you cannot use it--or maybe I will let you use it as 5+ instead since that is what it used to be."
Once in a while you get a real gem "Warp Field says it gives Zoanthropes a 3+ save now, so the heirophant can't use it."

On the other hand, Toxic Miasma is functionally useless (unless fighting other gargantuan creatures) as non-gargantuan models do not remain in base contact.

Even so, Spore Cloud should use the Spore Cloud rules listed in the heirophant's entry, not the Venomthrope's Spore Cloud. As I read it.

Which version are you using: Apocalypse, pg. 148 or IA4, pg. 105?

Warp Field is not a Psychic Power any more and has been given a significant bump. IA4 gives it as 5+ and C:Tyr gives it as 3+, so which version do you use?

I can't wait for FW to update IA4, but it does not seem to be on their radar.

Warp field and Spore cloud have been updated,as have Lash whips. So lash whips now reduce you to Int 1,instead of -1 attack.Warp field, which is not on the datasheet, but is in the codex,is now the codex update,so a 2+,3++.Spore Cloud is detailed on the sheet,so follow those rules.I would make the Heirophant still count as a psyker, but just doesn't have powers, because a 2+,3++,10 wound, toughness 9 GC,was still vulnerable to GK,so at least give that.

Thanks for the responses but it looks like I will just have to come to a compromise with my opponent since there isn't enough solid ground to really call anything "the right way."

There is no way anyone using (only) current rules would be able to explain why it should be 6++.

Even so, nosferatu1001 probably said it better.

The Apocalypse version of the Hierophant was written with the 4th Edition Tyranids Codex in mind - therefore, I would use the rules for the Hierophant as they are presented there. 3++ is just excessive.

So Necrons must take some time for you to rule on?

There have been updates since the book was released, in case anyone missed them.

Regardless if people are saying something is too powerful for Apocalypse games, you need to find new people to play Apocalypse with.
They are doing it wrong.

Yes, the update means it doesnt get any invulnerable save, as it isnt a Zoanthrope

Strict RAW, it doesn't get the save. Strict RAI, it doesn't get the save. Loose RAI, it gets the save.

Common apocalypse house rule, it doesn't get the save, 6+ is totally fine and apoc is supposed to be fun. 3+ has the potential to ruin the day in a really unfun way. I would play him as a 6+ and be perfectly happy to still have the strongest gargantuan creature in the game.

However, anyone that argues that it doesn't get the 3+ because it is not a zoanthrope (unless they are just trying to justify the above in a friendly manner) is probably not someone you want to play a fun casual apoc game with. That argument flies in the face of the spirit of the game. I've had people say that about the doom and I just pack up my models and leave. No reason to play with someone like that.

Here is hoping the unit gets updated in IA Apoc SE. Oh, wait, the TOC from their site says no, grumble.
