Hey guys. So I'm working on a dreadclaw right now, and I'm in a conundrum. Take a look first and I'll explain:

So see that Chaos Star right there? I want to remove it, but have no idea how to do this. I want to replace it with a Lords of Decay symbol:
But I don't know how to sand it off without ruining the surrounding areas. Any suggestions and help would be truly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Dremel tool and alot of patience.

Anywhere worth being

A dremmel tool with some kind of flat, round sanding bit would probably be your best option. Check out your local Wal-Mart for dremmels.

Would some kind of planing tool be a bad idea to use? I've never used a dremel and haven't had this kind of problem before.

I would suggests a dremmel or sand paper.

The dremmel is risky because you are trying to flat a surfuce.

The sand paper I think would be ideal. You purchase a rough pad, mediums pad, and a fine pad. The fine pad is to smooth is clean.

I don't think a planing tool will give you quite what you're looking for. For something like that, I'd use a really sharp X-Acto knife and cut the chaos star out in very small sections so you don't slip and ruin the rest of the model (or your other hand!). Sand the cut up area down flat and fill in any gaps (then sand again; redundant, I know), then you should be able to mount your lords of decay symbol.

I am going to suggest a different alternative;

Putty, like green stuff...

If all you are putting on is a decal, then you need a flat surface. Level the area with the putty of your choice. That will make sanding easier, and the decal will have a place to call home.

Thank you for the many replies. It has given me a good idea what to do with this.

Although this would be a good idea in many situations, one thing the pictures don't grasp is depth. That skull star is much taller than the surrounding panel, so sadly this wouldn't work. Thank you for the suggestion though.

Jordan, I think this is the route I'll take. I'll need to go buy one of those vertical blade xacto knives, but it really is the cheapest, and with my modeling history, safest route. I actually already almost sliced the tip of my thumb clean off while getting this thing cleaned, and scalpels are the tools I'm most familiar with so this is what I'll do.

As awesome as dremels seem to be, I don't have the time to learn to use a new tool, what with having 1 week before Uni starts up to build as much and paint as much as I can.

Thanks for the responses,

Alternative is to take a piece of wood smaller than the symbol, attach a piece of sand paper to the end (with glue) and use that to sand the symbol off. (essentially a small DIY sanding block)
