What does everyone think of Sanguinary Guard? I'm thinking about getting some as a bodyguard for a Captain. Are they worth the points? Are there better options out there?

When attempting to kill a small number of models that have good armor saves, they are excellent. When using them against ork boyz, not so much.

HIDING IN THE METAL BAWKSES!!

I'd prefer Honor Guards, they come with a Sanguinary priest and have a variety of range and melee weapon choices.
Also don't take up any spot on FOC and fluffy to boot.

If you're into all jump infantry lists, sanguinary guard are excellent at providing heavy support to already engaged assault squads that are struggling to finish the enemy off.

This is my problem with the SG, the Honour Guard is simply a better choice (now if they'd given them relic blades instead of the singularly unimpressive swords they have I'd be all over them, great models though).

Take Dante and run a Golden Shower list with tons of deep striking Sanguinary Guard! It could be fun. They absolutely melt to plasma fire though, since they don't have invulnerable saves.

I don't play BA, but I've played against BA in my area a lot. They aren't as scary as they seem when they deepstrike. They're scariest when they start on the board, preferably out of LOS and get in your face ASAP. Also, deepstriking with dante to melta something to death or into cover can get scary quick.

Usually when they deepstrike, they either get Prism cannon'd or melta'd, or plasma'd to death pretty fast. And against I6 halberds, with no unvul, they don't last long.

It's spelled "cavalry." NOT "calvary."

They're scary.
But one plasma cannon makes them go bye-bye.

Why do I feel like you should be wearing an R Kelly mask if playing this list...Oh, and your opponent should be a 16 year old girl

Thanks for the tips guys. All of this is pretty much what I've been thinking, the artificer is awesome, but no invuln makes them really vulnerable. Perhaps DS does help with this...

One good thing about Sanguinary Guard is that they can be a troop choice when you take Dante.... I deep strike them in (without scattering, thanks Dante) and use 3 infernus pistols to basically pop any problem tank that may be bothering me. Or you could deep strike them to precisely take an objective.

Yes, they are vunerable to plasma (and melta, but who isn't), but with a chapter banner and a sanguinary priest they can slice through most MEQs and terminators with little problem.

Like all Blood Angels units always make sure YOU are charging and not being charged.

Also make sure to deep strike them near cover, you dont have to worry about scattering with Dante and you can hop over most terrain with their jump packs.
