I've had a good look around the interweb but haven't found an alternative to th rather expensive GW monster case. I'm looking for a case large enough to hold ork stompa sized models. Des anyone know of an alternative to bubble wrap and a a4 copier paper box.

Feldherr do raster foam up to 100mm deep, which is what you get in the GW case, and you can order it separately - just remember to order a bottom for it, and self adhesive foam - meaning it will go in your normal GW army case, if you have a spare.
Might be worth checking out KR, they have a lot of choice case wise.
ANd of course there is battelfoam, if yo uhave the money!

What are the dimensional requirements for a stompa?
I use Plano 1401 Accessory/pistol/reel cases for my models. They come with foam and are hard sided so I don't worry about damage. The dimensions are
Height: 6"
Width: 14-1/2"
Length: 16-3/4"
Even with shipping to uk, at 15-20 bucks a piece it'd probably be cheaper than the GW monster case.
More than you ever wanted to know about the PLANO 1401 here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/362407.page
EDIT: looks like the Plano is probably too small. In that case, I think any appropriately sized toolbox with the right complement of eggshell foam is a good option.

I'm not too sure what UK Customs will do, when the package lists Firearms Accessory.
It's not that the price that'll be good, but getting it in at all that might scupper that plan.

as far as I know the cases for pistols are just fine, many people use them for carrying around other more delicate items since they are great protection.

Just make sure you buy one from a retailer selling it as a reel case or an accessory case. The same case is marketed as pistol, reel, or accessory case at different retailers depending on their audience. They just slap a different sticker on it, except for the reel case which has a reel motif molded on it.
