So Im not really known for my good sleep. And last night has been the worst Ive had in awhile. I think I finally passed out somewhere around 1ish, and sprung awake at 5am. Dunno why, I just rolled over and Im awake. Worst part is, I cant really do much because Ill end up waking the fam and that could be a bad idea So instead I decided to bitch about it here, with you fine folk. So when you wake up with your morning coffee and such, now you have something to smile about and think "HA! I slept great KC, you suck"

I don't think you suck KC, I have much the same problem! For years now I have managed to cope on 4-5 hrs sleep a night.
The only good thing is that in the 2 hrs I have before I have to go to work I can get painting done and watch some films....

It's not so bad

Yup, I try! I'm only 3 hrs into a 12 hr shift at work right now and am feeling like a zombie.....

Good luck with the sleeping though...Have you tried a shot or two of Whiskey before you go to sleep? Purely medicinal of course!

I've been sleeping the same way for the past few months, no matter how late I stay up I'm awake at 6AM. Then I'm usually tired as feth from noon on.

God I wish I could sleep in once in a while

Probably work

Oh man, I've been sleeping on average 3 hours a night since Sunday night. I fall asleep when I get home at about 17:00 for a couple hours, and then I'm stuck up the rest of the night until I finally fall asleep for an hour or so at about 4:00.

I can usually sleep, but if the slightest thing knocks me off of a 23:30-6:00 schedule, I'm not sleeping proper again until I just finally crash for about 15 hours straight.

I average 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night during the week, perhaps 6-7 on weekends...been that way for years and it doesn't really bother me.
Once I get some coffee in me I'm raring to go...

I normally do ok, but I was finishing my dissertation off this week and worked solidly from 08:00am Monday to 12:00pm Tuesday. I was and still am a bit shattered.

This is exactly how I am as well. Bed at 12-1AM, up for work at 5!

Well I must of slept worse then I thought, because around noonish, I went into my bedroom to get something. And sat on the bed and poof, woke up about an hour or so later I feel pretty damn good now, but hell I hate it when I sleep like that. Mine isnt an all the time thing either, so I dont ever get used to it. Ill go from sleeping okish to tossing/turning all damn night, to waking up because my arms are so asleep it hurts, to what happened last night. Its terrible.

But I do take melatonin (sp?) occasionally to help me goto sleep, but I dont take it that often, only when I can tell Im going to pull the whole lay there awake for 4 hours before passing out.

I've been kinda screwed up the last few days, going to bed around dawn and waking extremely groggy around lunchtime. Trying to sort it out because I'm back to school on thursday, so I went to bed early last night, only to have the roof leak directly above my bed. Argh! And my flat is in a mess, so moving my mattress involved cleaning the floor around it. Now my mattress is inconveniently in front of the door, but I got no where else to put it. Needless to say, a damp and uncomfortable night was had last night.

KC my man! you know how i'm a touch odd right?.... well the reason is I don't sleep much either! I work 11 hour graveyard shifts (which i'm on right now!) and I struggle to stay asleep during the day when i'm home! probably only get 3-6 hours max a day/night? but I try and keep bubbly by being on Dakka! sometimes i try and go to bed thinking about how nice and deep i'll sleep for,for a few hours so hopefully when I drop off (to sleep) i'll wake up with the mindset that i've had a restful slumber! have you considered not sleeping at all? all someone like you would need is a can of 'powerthirst' a day and you're set! if you haven't seen it yet youtube it and have a watch!

Ex nihilo

What you need is a completely new structure for time itself.
I got a work at home job a while ago, and posted the following. It's still working out great, and all of my sleep troubles are gone.

Doomthumbs wrote:
Now that I'm in a job where my schedule is my own, time for a workweek overhaul. It should come as no surprise that Sunday is my least favorite day of the week, and so its getting cut out. Im dividing it into six chunks of 4 hours each, and tacking these onto the other days.
This should work out to my benefit in every way I can imagine. Instead of seven 18 hour days followed by a 6 hour sleep cycle, I now have six 20 hour waking periods followed by 8 hours of sleep. Nice. More time for productivity when I'm awake, more sleep. Not missing Sunday yet. Some might have already picked up on the fact that these sleep cycles will shift throughout the "normal" week, so some of my sleep cycles will fall during daylight hours. Blackout curtains in the room anyway, no problems anticipated there. Check this out though- by Saturday, I'm up all night after napping during the morning. Then I sleep through a good chunk of the day Sunday. I cant also rightly use the regular names for the weekdays anymore, because of the fact that a Monday would continue four hours into Tuesday. My days are: Manday (Testosterone themed), Toonsday (Cartoons), Winsday (Gaming), Hersday (For Erin), Freeday (Varies week to week), and Doomsday (Take a wild guess who I please then).
I do still have to work, but only on every day except Doomsday, which will be my day of rest. Still 5 days of 8 hours work, which falls in the purview of "Normal". After subtracting these 8 hours from the waking periods, I'd be left with only 10 hours to myself in the regular week, and forced to be moving from "Go". Now, Ive got 12 hours to myself, two of which are devoted to waking up at a decent pace. I'll still take two showers a day - but save more water. Eat the same 3 meals plus snacks, but lose weight because even though I'll technically skipping 3 meals a week, I wont notice too much because there will only be an added time of 80 minutes between meals. I feel like this is an old spice commercial at this point. Look at your week. Now look at mine. Now back at yours. Sadly, it isn't mine.

You get much longer to sleep with my method, during varied times of the day. Figure out what works for you, then revert back to "normal".

I used to have trouble with sleeping.

Changing my diet helped a lot. Limiting caffine after lunch helped. Eating before 8 PM was also helpful. Getting into a routine. I also started eating healthier and dropped 25 pounds.

I had sleep apnia. Only a Dr. can tell you if you have it. Then, they WILL try to sell you one of those devices that help regulate your breathing. Not wanting to sleep like vader for the next 30 years, I got a second opinion from my GP. He told me it could by my enlarged tonsils. So, I had them taken out. In combination with the weight loss, it cured my snoring and sleep apnia.

I just started exercising more. That also gets me tired and helps with stress from work (and these fething forums!). heh.

Anyway, what worked for me won't neccessarily work for everyone. Just thought I'd share that I used to be in the same boat. Do you snore a lot?

My sleeping patterns get messed up and have become more nocturnal lately

Am usually just dropping off around 5:00am

Is not too bad if I have the energy to do something worthwhile, but usually I end up frittering away the hours on Dakka

Doomthumbs - how do you find the 6 day week. I am told that there were experiments done by communists to change the 'week' but that it didn't work as we are hard coded to 7 days.

I would just like to add that a...uhhh... certain herbal remedy helps me very much to go to sleep.

I can vouch for alot of what this man says. I did the same thing. the one difference is i got the Darth Vader action noise machine. i would never get to a deep enough
sleep state before the machine. now it's a whole different world. I had pitting edema before i started using the machine and now normal. they're not cheap, but if you
can get a sleep study done.

and good luck. nothing worse than laying there thinking i should be asleep while you're wide awake!

Good man.

Had I had no other option, I would have gone this route and probably be sleeping just as well.

My dad uses one of those machines, it's really improved his quality of life.

My niece used to be fond of getting a cup or something, holding it up to her face, going "HRRRSH, KRRSSSH, HRRRSH, KRRSSH" into it and then declaring "I's Gandad!"

I'm pretty sure I have this problem, I'm ALWAYS tired and my wife says I sound like a chainsaw in a bucket of gravel when I sleep. Maybe when I someday get insurance I'll get a sleep study done or since I'm going into respiratory therapy as a profession maybe a CPAP will magically disappear from work one day so I can test myself at home
