Hey all! After lurking around on here as a guest I thought I'd give it a go and make my own space marine army called Storm Raiders. I havn't painted anyhting yet but I've started to convert a techmarine on a bike

This is my first conversion so all feedback and comments welcome

I looked at the unit of Space Marines I have that are unpainted and decided I'd have a go at a captain. The colour schems differ on rank so captains and chapter master have gold helmets and trim and sgts and veteran sgts have silver. Any ways here he is please leave feedback! also i apologise for bad picture quality but I currently don't have access to a camera so im using my phone till i get hold of one

The Captain looks good, I like the freehand on the cloak, but the lightning bolt on the front could use a touch-up.

Techpriest on the bike is a cool idea, will be interested to see what he looks like when he's finished.

Pretty tidy paint job, as Hatticus said, the free hand needs a bit of work but that'll all come together with time and experience. Good high-lighting on the green armour and good colour scheme overall.

Looking forward to progress! Keep it coming!

Need more 's in my life!

Thanks guys I'm not very good at free hand but I'm sure I'll get better at it as time goes on. Disaster has struck! i went to start work on the techmarines backpack for the 3rd and 4th arm but servo arm arms collapsed. So which would be better? to repair everything and have all 4 arms on the backpack or mount the flamer and twin linked plasma pistol on the bike somewhere as arms or something? Ideas welcomed!

I'd say that's a pretty ambitious first conversion, but so far it's looking really good! It might work better to have the guns mounted somewhere else, but after seeing your cool work on the servo arms... maybe make more of those? If you decide not to, maybe incorporate the plasma pistols on top of the bolters to have twin-linked bolter/plasma combis

The picture is actually pretty good considering it's a phone pic. Like others said, nice one on the freehand. You could go back and touch it up a bit, make the white a bit more solid with a couple of layers of thinned paint and then go around the edges in black to make it all nice and smooth.

And since someone's going to say it eventually, I'm gonna go ahead and be that guy- if you get the chance get hold of a pin vice and drill out the barrels on your guns to make them look extra shooty! Also a file to get rid of the rough bits like at the top of the backpack.

Overall though, nice work. I like the highlighting on the armour, it's all really neat and you're going for advanced techniques with the freehand! I'll be subbing this

@ master of asgard
good idea! I'll give it a go if i cant get the other arms to attach. Also the boltgun part of the combi weapon is drilled out just a bad pic so you can't see it
It would also appear I was lying about that captain being my first painted model for this army. I went rooting round a dark dusty box for bits (seems to have them stashed everywhere...) when i came across these fellows who were my first ever painted models for the hobby and for this army! I stopped painting them to paint a skaven army instead I know they look terrible but they were my first comments and feedback always welcomed!
This is the tactical squad

Termies: (i only show 2 because the other 2 of the squad are exactly the same

Well I've managed to use this evening to paint 2 of my assault marines. In the first image i used some sort of pen in the detail bits but it hasnt turned out too well. Won't be doing that again
The second marine I've tried to take more time on. Think it's worked out well After repairing the techmarines servo arm the other one fell off so I'll have to repair that as well. It's annoying because it's slowing progress. As usual comments and feedback is welcomed!

try watering down your paint alot. your paint seems really heavy. especially on the red. hope that helps and keep painting.

Thanks for the tip i just do it straight from the pot. Doesnt look to bad on the other colours in person but the red does seem thick. Maybe I'll have to experiment also can someone give me some ideas for conversion work? My friends just given me 6 push together space marines. Don't know if i should just use them or paint them as different chapters to practice new colours or if i should convert them into something. All ideas welcomed

Love the cape, did the same person do that that did the rest? Not too keen on the red/green scheme but thats my opinion, whatever floats your boat. Feel free to check out my scheme and comment. I really do like the trim on the cape tho keep it up.

Also buy another reach captain off ebay for like 3$ or 2 squid. Lots of good possibilities to convert them . I made two different ones, a beakie with claw and ss, and then i got a little bolder and since i bought some sterguard so i made a Pedro Kantor to go with them.

Unfortunately Ive done all the red this way on the rest of the assault squad, a command veteran and 2 devastators. However Ive been thinking of a new way to do red so once ive done this assault squad ill do the command squad for a test. Like I said hopefully by the end of today ill have the rest of the asault squad done and ready to post

Well thats the assault squad now finished. All day painting paid off with breaks to play Eldar Scrolls IV Oblivion. Also Ive now repaired Both the servo arms on my custom techmarines back pack and now I'm starting the other to arms so wish me luck on that

and the sgt

Like I said before these marines, 2 devastators and 1 command veteran had the red painted this way so when i start the next command guy the red will be different.
As usual comments and feedback always loved

The new red looks much better It looks like you have thinned it down and used a darker red then highlighted. Is it Red gore, highligted with blood red?

Not sure about the highlighting on the helmets, it looks like chainmail or mithril silver. Personally i dont think it goes as well with the colour of the helemts. Maybe a blazing orange would be better?

Oh, and yeah white is a bugger. I gave up on white and went for bone instead

Thanks the red is mechrite red, then washed with baal red then highlighted with blood red. The 2 helmets with the silver highlights are just something i copied from an ultramrine army where they used gold insted of silver. The techmarine on the bike is now being worked on after several accidents with him (mainly the backpack collapsing) but thats all sorted now. Just have to do the last 2 arms ie the flamer and twin linked plasma pistol and then I believe he'll be ready for a lick of paint. Im currently working on devastators at the m. Thanks for checking it out and should have some pics in the next couple of days!
