As ar as a general discussion about deathstar units is concerned, how many of you deal with deathstar units by commiting your own said deathstar unit to the task?
or is it best avoid a deathstar collision, and hope your dethstar gets the job done faster?

interested to see what you guys do.

In a fun game, I will happily charge my paladins or full DCA/crusader squad at the enemy deathstar, because isn't that what we're all paying to see?

In a competitive game, no, probably never unless its either a desperate last hope to kill that unit off or tie them up for a couple of rounds. Deathstar units are usually so named because they are tough and outrageously dangerous in close combat, so I want to shoot them given the choice.

There are probably a few times when I would send my big baddies at theirs just to deny the charge and any bonuses it carries, but more often then not I am just pouring fire into those kinds of units.

HIDING IN THE METAL BAWKSES!!

Most of the time it's better to just shoot the death star or tie them up with a horde of cheap guys.

It isn't always the smartest idea, but it's almost always the coolest idea. I game with Dakka user madmen fairly often, and one of the coolest aspects of our games is his Land Raider Crusader and my Batltewagon circling each other like sharks, which eventually leads to Belial, a chaplain, and a squad of mean Terminators charging my tooled up warboss and nob squad or vice versa. It's always a great rumble!

Forgive the ignorance but wouldn't a "Deathstar" unit be outrageously good at killing stuff from range? Like the real Deathstar is... Or is the converse and they get owned by one well placed proton torpedo?

On topic though, A Interrogator Chaplain or Company Master w/Powersword leading a five man Vet squad all w/Twin lightning claws in a Crusader.

Watching two Deathstar units slam into eachother with their accompanying HQ is always a good watch.
Most people will shoot them to death, but we all expect that.
Seeing a unit of Terminators and a Chapter Master w/ TDA smash into a unit of Mega Armoured Nobz and a Tooled up Warboss is definitely entertaining.

Deathstars in 40k are generally so named because they are expensive, tough and deadly in close combat. Some are also good at shooting, like paladins, but all are built for cc first and foremost.

Black Templars Assault Terminators>Every one else's assault terminators. Thus, I'd gladly charge enemy Terminators.

50 guardsmen = around $250

1 priest = $0, ty spare bitz

5 commissars (mybe proxy) = $25 if ur smart

Straken and CCS = around $40

Watching your furious charging power blob with rerolls at Ld9 Stubborn slam into Terminators or equivanlant and winning = priceless

I sometimes pit Deathstar vs Deathstar. If the points value of the game is high enough, I have Sternguard with Tigurius in a Salamanders army, and ten twin-linked melta shots tend to make even the most hardened veteran cry. If I don't think that the melta volley can put a nasty dent in it, I tend to avoid committing my Deathstar.

I will accept the challenge, no matter the odds. So will null zone.

-Begins amassing the terminator legions of Macragge-

Seriously, it depends on the situation. If I think their deathstar has me beat, or it looks like it's going to be a fair fight, they get shot to death. Or shot to death and then hit with my deathstar. Or, in some cases, shot to death BY my deathstar (Lucky vortex roll.)...

I always JSJ with my R'alai + XV9 deathstar and my Farsight +Full body guard around their deathstar. Very few casualties for very many kills.
