One suggestion; Get rid!
I keep trying to update my blog, i'm a fairly fast modeller, i tend to get some work done before i go to work, around 9-10am for an update, then i usually post another in the evening, however if no one replies.... Automatic merge! not only can i not update my log properly, but the chances of getting feedback (which is the main reason you post a hobby blog, unless i'm mistaken) from page 2-3 where the log now sits are somewhere between 0 and none.
At the very least, can you turn down the times between post merging? 10-12 hours between posts in your own blog seems moderate enough to me,

If you attach the pictures (which also adds them to the Dakka Gallery) rather than hot-linking them, it over-rides the auto-merge.

There you go...
Both Insaniak and my true love Chowderhead have revealed the answer...
All you need to do is upload to Dakka image hosting and use those images instead.

People misquote - it is actually image attachments to the forum post that disable it, not just using gallery images.
