So, a bit of background. I have 1500 points of Witch Hunters, which has now become 1000 points of Sisters of Battle, plus 500 points of Grey Knights (the Inquisition forces). I brainstormed up a set of proposed rules to re-unite them. I know there are alternatives out there (use the old book in friendly games, wait for the eventual release of a new book, use the Confessor's stats for my Inquisitor and a Conclave's stats to represent his henchmen, buy a bunch of Grey Knights and spin off a new army, toss all 1500 points into the Atlantic, etc). However, I felt one viable solution would be to integrate forces from 2 (3 really) current armylists to produce a Witch Hunters list for friendly games. I added the caveat that Ecclesiarchy forces cannot be included (including no Jacobius) so that there’s some form of tradeoff, and to help distinguish the feel of the force as Sisters assigned to the Inquisition.

C: GK is Codex: Grey Knights, whereas C: IG is Codex: Imperial Guard. No points costs have been changed; points and options are taken from the source codex. Acolytes, Chirurgeons, Sages, Penitents, and Familiars, all from Codex Witch Hunters, were the original choices for the Inquisitorial Henchman Band, and I’d like to put them back in there, but haven’t done so yet. Additionally, I’d like to re-integrate the Inquisitor’s original choice of powers rather than Hammerhand/Psychic Communion, as well as re-adding the Psychic Hood, but haven’t done so yet either as I know there are some hefty balance considerations involved; far too demanding for 2:27am. Finally, the Inquisitorial Stormtroopers presented below are armed with lasguns, rather than hellguns. Is an upgrade called for? Also, Repressors.

Now, without further ado, Sisters of the Battle and the Inquisition.

Sisters of Battle may be seconded to the Inquisition. A Sisters of Battle force that has been assigned to Inquisitorial service follows the following deviations from a normal Sisters of Battle Force.

Deletions from the Sisters of Battle codex to represent Inquisitorial service:
+ Confessors. Preachers, Battle Conclaves, and Penitent Engines may not be taken.
+ Jacobus and Kyrinov may not be taken.

Additions to the Sisters of Battle codex to represent Inquisitorial service:
+ Must take one of the following as a HQ: (See C: GK)
Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor
Inquisitor Karamazov

+ For each Inquisitor, you may also take one Inquisitorial Henchman Warband (See C: GK). This warband does not take up a force organization slot, but is treated as an Elites choice for objectives etc. The Jokaero Weaponsmith and Daemonhost may not be chosen in the warband.

+ May choose to take at most one of the following choices as an Elite: (See C: GK)
Callidus Assassin
Eversor Assassin
Culexus Assassin
Vindicare Assassin

+ May take Inquisitorial Stormtroopers Squads as a Troops choice. This selection is functionally identical to Imperial Guard Veterans (see C: IG), with the following exceptions:
Carapace Armor is a mandatory selection.
Other doctrines (Forward Sentries and Demolitions) may not be chosen.
Heavy Weapons and Voxcasters may not be chosen.
Upgrade characters (Harker and Bastonne) may not be chosen.

If its just for games among friends and they agree; then theres nothing wrong with mixing codexes.

Although, theres no reason why an Inquisitor wouldnt requisition a Confessor and his gaggle of Penitent engines. If they were on hand and you were an Inquisitor, would you leave them in the Cathedral?

Thanks for the input, and I agree. The Witch Hunters codex did included Priests (Preachers) and Penitent Engines. However, I think that the Confessor/Conclave are pretty similar to the Inquisitor/Henchmen and having both options open would be a bit redundant. Removing the Confessor and friends also keeps the list streamlined and focused on Inquisition and Sisters of Battle rather than Inquisition + SoB + Other Ecclesiarchical Elements. Additionally, early concensus seems to indicate that Jacobus and the Conclave are some of the codex's more powerful options. Giving them the axe is going to help further define the list, as it will stand apart a bit from the 'usual' SoB list (as if there were enough Sisters players for there to be a usual list ). However, I was also thinking of getting a Confessor/Preacher type character in there as members of the Inquisitor's warband (along with a Sister Dialogous, and Sister Hospitalier). That would keep some of the Ecclesiarchical flavor in there, and help further develop the Warband as a swiss-army-knife unit.

All that being said, this variant still fails to deliver an effective 'Penitent Engine' replacement, so cutting the Engine out might be uncalled for- hopefully I can get a game in with them soon and see how it all pans out. Unfortunately, I don't have a Penitent Engine, so I won't know what I'm missing. I'm convinced that the day after I order a Penitent Engine or three, GW will unveil an all new plastic one...

Alternately, dig up the MrSako Inquisition rules and use those.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.
