Borders is ending, which I can live with, but for those of us close to one we've probably noticed that books have suddenly become awesomely cheap. The going out of business sales have been out for a month or two now and there's maybe a month left. So, what did you get if you got anything?

I finally managed to get my hands on my own copy of Rolling Thunder Against the Rising Sun, which I've read seen at the Military History Institute but have never gotten around to reading. Given my interest in armored warfare I figured snagging a $40 book for $12 was too good to pass up. In my shuffling I managed to snag The Tao of Deception as well. I saw it in the first week of the sale but the cost was still $30 so I passed it up. Got it for $13. I grabbed up some other books to add to my growing collection and am pretty pleased. Lots of studying to do in my free time now once I finished my book on Thomas Holcomb.

So? Who got what?

I picked up a few GW/40K Novels (I normally don't buy or read them; mostly due to lack of time).

I got Helsreach and Gunheads, mosly because they feature orks.

Nothing spectacular, but they made for adequate summer/vacation reading.

One thing that was sort of amusing, was the reference to orks using "spears" in Helsreach. The author mentions it about nine or ten times. Just seemed odd...

Man, I haven't been to a Borders in ages. I guess I'm one of those people that killed the bookstores with their e-readers.

I have a ton of e-books. Sadly some things I like, namely history works, aren't always available in a digital format

That's why you buy a J-Store sub.

The Wave by Susan Casey. Wasn't the best, but considering that I got it for 3 bucks I wasn't too disappointed.

I just found out about this and sadly nothing good was left that I wanted. My wife picked up the 3rd Twilight movie for only 13 bucks though so she was happy.

Our local Borders had a sale over about 5 weeks, dropping 10-20% per week until everything was gone

I've picked up a couple of things, managed to snag the complete set of Walking Dead in hardcover format pretty early on. Also walked away with Castle Panic for $20 and some BL books.

Its a shame that they went out of buisness I spent alot of my lunch breaks there.

I have managed to hit two different borders going out of sale.... sales.

At the first one I picked up two hardback graphic novels, Y The Last Man.

At the second one I picked up a steampunk novel, another novel and two hardback graphic novels, Locke & Key.

Love getting things for cheap!

I didn't bother going. I've been to a couple of liquidation sales, and in my experience, they tend to be all be run by the same professional liquidating company, which jacks up prices 30% and then "reduces" them to the all-items-must-go 25% off figure, as they did with CompUSA, Circuit City, et al. Just a few seconds of googling confirms this was the case, as always, with Borders.

It's a shame, since I really liked Borders. Specifically, I liked going into Borders, looking at all the books, and then using my phone & the in-store Wifi to order them off Amazon, and then leaving without my wallet ever leaving my pocket.
