Just a quick one ladies and gents, the lesser daemons in the back of the CSM codex, whilst not counting as troops choices, say there are treated as troops in other ways.

Does this means they can hold objectives? I'm pretty sure its yes but I wanted to check before going off half cocked.

Cheers

Yes, they are a troop choice, and can therefore hold objectives. Even though they do not take a slot, they are still a Troop.

I suggest you don't believe anything posted by thedarkavenger unless confirmed by other regular posters here at Dakka. He has shown he is incapable of basic English comprehension.

They sure can hold objectives, it's nice having a small unit of cheap fearless buggers hold those for ya.

What I was thinking....also in cover, going to ground gives you a MEQ statline, with an added invulnerable save

So, given that they don't take up a force org slot, but still count as troops, does this mean there is no limit on the number of units of them you can take? I know you need a personal icon somewhere to DS off to get them in the game, but that aside, on paper, is it possible to have say, 10 units?

LETS NOT FORGET... they are 13 points not 14 and they can assault the same turn they come in. Its not like they are inferior in every way to normal Daemons.

You say you hate it but you wont do anything about it? What the serious ork?

I'd say accurate DS and charging immediately make them pretty well worth it, especially if you build your army around them coming in, and don't just throw them in because you feel like it.

They have specific rules allowing them to do so.

Well, when they get backed up by pissy greater daemons and close combat specialists...yeah, I'd say they're great additional attacks that can take objectives later. Also, what the other two guys said-special rules and all.

page 61 codex CSM tells you about DS daemons and the assaulting same turn for those of you who find the "just because the rules say so" slightly unhelpful.

Your lessers are situational just like Vito says. Don't let that discourage you because a good player can create a situation to use his list to its full potential if he designs a smart all comers list. A difficult task in Codex CSM without looking like a cookie cutter sheep... It can be done. Practice a few times and see how they work for your play style.

I've seen them used to good effect to support a rhino rush. They die but they also can prevent your DPs and berzerkers from getting shot at the turn they dismount.

They're the cheapest objective holders in the book and do well in most situations.

Either you get a charge off the turn they come in which is great or you camp them on an objective and go to ground for the 3+ cover. Since they're fearless they're better at that than vanilla marines and they're only about half the price of cult troops.
