Aliens, zerg and the like were my beloved critters for my whole life, and tyranids were an obvious choice when i got my claws on 40k.
With advent of new codex i fancied to try something whole different from what i played in 3 &4 eds - a full reserve tyrnid list.
the list is costructed as a tournei one, I had quite a success with it on local scene, but it's quite small &mostly noob so it doesnt say much to me.

Hive Tyrant (Lwhip, Bsword, 2-l Devourer, Paraxism,Leech Essence, Wings, HiveCommander) 270

2 Zoanthropes 120 + Micetic Spore (Barbed Strangler) 55
3 Zoanthropes 180 + Micetic Spore (Barbed Strangler) 55
Doom of Malantay 90 + Micetic Spore (cluster spines) 50

17 Hormogaunts (TS, AG) 170
10 Genestealers (TS, Broodlord w Scything talons) 216

2*3 Tyranid Shrikes (Scything talons, Bonesword & lashwhip, TS) 165*2

Trygon (AG) 210

All go reserve DS, stealers &Hormogaunts (thanks hive commander) outflank;
when baddies start dropping, i deploy mishapping units (tyrant & shrikes) first, safe distance from the enemy, then drop spores with Zoants & trygon between them & foes to give em cover; doom is dropped as near to the enemies as possible and works at least as HATE(=fire) magnet; tyrant & shrikes thus get respite from being shot and get good chance to reach enemyes unscarred; barbed stranglers on Spores might seem strange, but were chosen over Clusterspines for chance to pin squads.

What do you think? what problems this list will have on proper competitive scene and how it could be improved to overcome those shortcomings?

Drop the Barbed Stranglers on the mycetic spores. Waste of points. Drop close and let the 6 st6 attacks do some work. Remember yuou have to shoot at the closest thing.

Drop the closter spines as well.

Drop the shrikes. Take the points you picked up from the mycetic spores and buy 2 more trygons. (Might have to drop a hormoguant or two.

I would also try and fit in old adversary on the tyrant. Not a huge thing as the only thing that will really benefit from ti will be the hormoguants or the stealers but you might try it out.

All in all I thought that until the grey knight book came out the bugs had a decent shot with a drop list. I just cannot figure out a way around warp quake. That said I just went to 36 man tournament and didn;t face a single grey knight so I may be overbalancing my oppinion.

well the large blast guns on spores actually had dual purpose - giving thinning out horde armies, that my list would otherwise have problem dealing with, and to blastthos tight-packed dudes from transports my zoes just destroyed (hello plasmavets).
you are right on DSing spores at the rear of transport to try pop it.
i shall try out deploying more trygons instead of shrikes, thou i loved thir extra-killiness and superior reach, (3 shrikes can kill or at least siriously damagea mephiston/ most deathstars, even when those charge, while trygon is getting chopped before retaliating) (yess i know thei do suck vs walkers and are a bit more fragile vs shooting)
