Short version: New plastic wolves are coming. Taken from Warseer:
phantomtie wrote:New Wolf model coming.

Not sure if this is news or if it's already come up before but one of the Forgeworld guys let it slip to me that they won't be doing wolves with the new hobgoblins because they will be using new plastic ones from GW.

One kit will build 5 wolves I think thats bad for O&G because I think they get 8 in a box now but the wolves sound cool and they are apparently big enough for a space marine.

I don't play 40k so I don't care but I think that makes them bigger then the current wolf.
(...)
The guy told me that the plastic sprue makes 5 wolves and that you will GW and Forgeworld will use them for everything that needs a wolf.

The wolves are clean so anyone can use them as packs so any model that goes on them will need to have the saddle on them as the wolf model is just a wolf.

Not sure how this works with the goblin chariot as don't you need 3 wolves to make a chariot I really didn't think to ask about that but then again not sure he would know as he doesn't work for GW.

Darnok wrote:This fits very well with the rumours about new wolve riders from right before the new O&G book. It was said that wolve riders (and the respective special character) would be redone, but at a later point in time, possible within a years time.

Tokamak wrote:Yeah this rumour has been around for a while. It makes a lot of sense though, these wolvies are one of the oldest models in the current GW range.

Fingers crossed. I love wolves, and 'clean' wolves make me a happy bunny for an idea I have floating around in my head.

Orcs and Goblins Wave 2 perhaps?

I've actually grown to love last years Boar Boyz, so here's hoping for similar quality.

I really hope they don't 'cartoon' them up like they did with the boars.

That WoW look is not working for me.

Don't get your hopes too high though: GW can't sculpt wild animals. And they will be too small for thunderwolves I guess.

The lack of saddle is interesting. I would have thought that they would have figured out a way ot make the wolves so that they could be with or without saddle.

Likely it's a case of the saddle being part of the rider.

Unlike the boars though, looks like were gonna have to pay more to get larger units if they're 5 wolves each. Hobgoblins though? Thats interesting

Well debating GW's animal track record aside, Wolves are long, long, long overdue for an overhaul... Those have to be the single oldest plastics in production! Early 90's molds for crissakes lol.

GW has done some decent animals, and has done some bad ones as well.

I hope they do a new goblin chariot at the same time, with the new wolves... 3 to a box for $50AUS!!!

HA!

I kill me.

I would like new wolves but not because the wolves are bad, but rather the goblins riding them are really badly outdated.

Yep, I'd love to paint up new models for wulf boyz if they were up to the quality of the new savage orc and boar boyz sculpts. Much needed. And my chariots might all get new wolves to pull them. Also needed.

The original animals for wood elf beastmasters were very good and also very weedy looking in today's scale creeped and upsized range.

Hopefully we see them as part of second wave of orcs, and having them as separate models would also be nice.

To wade into this hip deep:

The statement "X cannot do y" covers current ability. Now, that's usually based on at least recent history, but it's a different statement than "X has never been able to do Y."

Given the context of the statement as being in a discussion of upcoming products, than current and recent history is the determining factor for the truth value of the statement.

Which I supposes raises the more relevant question: why does GW have such trouble sculpting animals, when other companies do it quite well? Or do we balk more at GW proportions on "real" animals than we do at monsters or even humans?

Yeah!!! GW will finally re-do what indy companies do better!!!! Incredible, and they will be plastic? And they love us so much that the price will be only 4 times the price of old kit...

Not impressed...

That said, a domestic animal can't be a counter example of GW not being able to sculpt wild animals.

What I had in mind is a comparison to Gamezone and Hordes:

Usually, GW goes terribly wrong with its wild animals. But we should stay on topic from now on.

Yikes, PP is not good with their animal sculpts. Whether you want to attach "either" to the end of that sentence is beside the point. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder.

Gamezone minis tend to always outdo GW imo

Although according to their blog, they havent done anything in a year. Shame really, I would love to see what they would do with some of the ogre concepts (no one makes "not GW" ogres )

Anyways back on topic, we'll just to have to wait and see. I mean its not like they can do another razorgor right?

So. I'm geuiniely curious.

1) How much have you spent on GW this year?
2) Do you play Warhammer?
3) Have you "quit" Warhammer?

hmm. I quite like the PP style animal sculpts actually.
still, it's very much a matter of taste and neither is 'bad', they're just not as amazing as we might want them to be. compare what we have now to what was avaidable 10 years or longer ago, and it's quite understandable we're spoilt

Comparing gamezone to GW isn't really fair, as gamezone puts out some of the most beautiful figures I've ever come across. OT, it's always good when existing models get re-done, especially ones as old as those wolf riders. However, if they do put out a thunderwolf kit, there's going to be a lot of unhappy indie model companies!

I must agree. Their 'feudal knights' are fantastic and I would gladly sub their models for my Bretonnians had I found them first

I am intruiged at this news of new wolves. Packs of multiple cheap, quality wolves are hard to find, especially in plastic.
