Hello all. I have decided to paint my marines as Salamanders, (no small amount of credit due to buying an army of marines already based for Salamanders) because I love their paint scheme, and some of their fluff.
This blog will contain my wips and finished models as I paint my way through the army and my old models, as well as any new ones I buy for it.

My first Salamanders where my mismatched scheme sternguard vets. How you all like them, and all C&C welcomed and appreciated.
(sorry for bad pics)

I like the flame on his faceplate! Interesting idea!!

My C&C would be:

- Do a couple more layers for the lighter colors you're using. (IE Flames) There's a couple of places where it looks weak against the green.

- You have a steady hand, and everything looks tidy, its just a case of getting the paint on a touch smoother. Water down the paint and do multiple thin layers rather than one or two thick ones.

(And I need to base them )

Thanks for the C&C. I'm going to redo the flames so they are yellow to orange, and I'll be sure to make them stand out better.

To be honest, I've... *prepares to dodge thrown daemonhammers* never watered down my paints. How do I do this?

I imagine you paint from the pot as well? First things first, get a palette. Anything works, an old plate, an old tile, anything old which you can put paint on (Not your painting desk ). Always put an amount of paint onto the palette to work with.

Watering down is easy on the palette. Just get an eye dropper and put a single drop of water next to the paint (not directly onto it). Mix so the paint is easy to work (Rule of thumb is the consistency of milk). You'll find that you have to do multiple layers if you do this because the paint is thinner and more of the color underneath can be seen. Also never paint over paint that is still wet, you'll be left with a mess... ^_^

Yep. Right from the pot. I'll try watering it down though

Looks good so far. How about using Greenstuff, and making a flame-engulfed base?

I really like what you've done with them. I've been holding off on starting my own Salamander army for some time now....you're not helping my resolve.

For bases, Im gonna make it look like rocks, with lava flow either as a stream, or as a 'pool' on one the edge of the base, examples soon, as well as wips of everything

So, I'm critically low on ink washes atm, so these are technically WIP, but here is my jp chaplain and my assault squad sgt

I'm gonna clean up the thick highlights, and once he is washed he should look better

I'm really happy with how the face turned out. I'm gonna try to get the hair to look more natural (possibly so highlights thrown in) but Im fond of the skin color I made.
(just noticed I forgot to paint the skull on the 'button' of the harness, and need to clean up the silver in the vents)
C&C greatly appreciated

In the first photo the green looked a bit dark, but in the subsequent ones, it looked a lot brighter, and better in my opinion.

I agree with Vent , water down the paints I used to paint rright from the pot as well. Watering down was the best advice i ever received

I use the plastic covering from a metal model as my palete although i keep meaning to get something later, like an old white plate or tile.
