Hi All

I've got a 1500 point beastman army. I've recently written a 3000 point list as something to aim for, while writing said list I came across the bestial cunning rule in Khazrak's profile. Now being a fan of Al'rahem with Astropath in 40k this sounded pretty good to me, however i'm still new to fantasy and was hoping to gather some opinions on Khazrak in general.

These are the main things that stood out to me:
His armor seems pretty solid 2+ save which negates magic/runic weapon abilities
His weapon (scourge IIRC) seems good as wll - can use instead of his normal attacks, the number of attacks is equal to the number of model in the front rank of the unit he is in base contact with.
He has leadership 9 which is the highest in the army book
Bestial cunning - reroll either the turn or side that an ambushing unit turns up on

Is he worth it? he seems a little exspensive to me and he doesn't have a ward save which worries me a little. I'm guessing you could probaly replicate most of what he does for cheaper using the beastlord (the only exception of bestial cunning) and have a ward to boot

so what do my fellow dakkites think? you used him? played against him?

thanks

Spank

He looks worth it, as long as you fully commit to an ambush force.

What gets me with the Beastmen ambush rule is that there are other armies with far more reliable ambush style units such as Tomb Kings (EBTS) or even Dwarfs (Miners).

Khazrak makes ambushing a bit more reliable, but nowhere near as good as the examples above.

Other armies are much more limited in how much they can ambush. Beastmen are the only army with ambushing core (outside of BSB induced ambushing tomb kings).

I say go for it, he is definitly a good beastmen Lord choice, althou a ambush army is requierd. But in the end its really your call thou, but remember Gors in the droves are requierd for this to work.

Well the army I wrote had 30 Gors with EHW, 40 ungors with spears and 10 ungor raiders all ambushing. Does that count as enough ambushing?

Isn't his lack of ward save a problem?

If I get a chance i'll put the list up on a seperate thread.

If you plan to ambush, the Khazrak is your man. Also, it is often that magic items is a problem to those without a ward save, but now he neutralizes them, and also have a 2+ AS. Just watch out for monsters and MI-characters. However, since he with Scourge gets 10 attacks against a horde, he shouldn't be going after other things than that.
