I destroy most of the kids I go up against at my club. My friend always yells at me that Grey Knights are OP. I run a deathstar mob of paladins with draigo and about 3 psyrifle dreads. It works well enough with the friendly gamers, but obviously isn't very tournament oriented.
ANYWAYS
Just wanted to see everybody's opinion on the matter. Do you think GK's are OP?

They have more than their fair share of batcrap crazy Wardisms.

Blood Angels are much the same.

I'm not overfussed, personally, as only one guy locally plays GK that i play regularly (tournament milage may vary) and my win/loss agaisnt him is about 50/50. That said he also avoids some of the more painful cranial-implosion lists thay GK allows..

I wouldn't say OP...

They are strong, that's clear. VERY strong. In the fluff they're even stronger. However, it's nothing a simple plasma-spam won't fix. Well, if they dodn't use their anti-plasma thingie...

Anyways...

Wel yeah, but Marines are the mayority of the armies, and that includes Chaos Marines xD

Also, when dealing with Grey Knights or other pesky marines like the Ultramarines:

Leman Russ Executioner
Hull-mounted Lascannon
Plasma Cannon Sponsons

Over and over again.

So you're basically saying the best way to kill GK is to be IOM?

I can live with this idea, given the insufferable glory-boys they are these days...

I liked them better when they were heroes :(

There's some goofy stuff in there but nothing to be too afraid of unless you're other Marines. All those power weapons are kinda scary for 3+ armies.

Scarier for Necrons, since they negate WBB also...

But then, that's if you let them hit you

Not really, AP3 doesn't negate WBB.

They're pretty-well established as not OP by now, they're just tough but the lack of bodies hurts them. A lot.

Yeah, it's delightfully ironic

I actually have these IG called the Blue Rogues. They're guardsmen that left the Imperium after an unpleasant encounter with the Grey Knights. Their commander (obviously unnoficial, the actual list uses Creed) gives them Prefered Enemy: Grey Knights (any Inquisition forces, really). Guess what's their favorite weapons? Plasma.

I've always referred to GK as 'too good at what they do and really bad at what they don't"
Sure they mutilate things with powerweapons. Sure Psycannons hurt.
Put a Green Tide up against virtually anything but Purifiers and they're screwed.
Drop a bunch of AV14 and they're screwed.
Purifiers can still be shot.

Throw a few hundred Gaunts at anything and it'll eventually get nom'ed.

I don't think they are OP, I just don't like them. The grenade section of their book is longer than the timeline of important battles in mine(I run orks). To much stuff to remember for my opponent's army.

"They are incorruptible super marines" just seems like stupid writing to me, too.

Another vote for 'not OP' here. They have their strengths and they have their weaknesses just like *shock* every other army in 40k! Ward writes nutty fluff, but one thing he's pretty damn good at is writing solid rules for his books, stuffed as they are with a variety of complex and fun builds.

They have been in it for ages, but I thought they had more of a non-combat presence making the digital weapons and such...

"Solid"? He usually needs a FAQ entry for practically every single page of rules he writes.

That's because Ward's writing style is generally crappy and often vague.

The mechanics themselves are not bad IMO.

I've had three games against Grey Knights running a Thousand Sons list and I have two wins and one loss. They don't seem particularly strong.

Omegus - compared to Phil "10 point missiles" Kelly and Robin "hydras 1/3rd of their initial cost" Cruddace I'll swap rules queries (which they fix through FAQs) for sheer broken balance codexes.

GK are by no means broken, they just can get a LOT of guns - can potentially outshoot IG - but thats all on AV11 hulls, and with no access to melta are reliant on rending (mostly) to get anything over AV12 to die.

The current net lists seem to fall into S6 HB spam, coteaz henchmen spam and paladins. Each have their bad matchups
