I was thinking about my fluff and was wondering how hard or easy are other races when you are trying to think of fluff. Any thoughts?

IG fluff is fairly easy to write, same as Orkz. Now, to write GOOD fluff, that's an entirely ifferent thing.

Space Marines. Honestly, it's as easy as picking a historical military group you want to base them on and going to town.

I'm an IG player, and the fluff for the armies is definately easy to write. But I have to say that I think the Tyranids are the easiest to write about. All you really have to do is pick a hive fleet and say that your army is a "splinter fleet".

As was seen in Desert Raiders, even a small Tyranid scout ship has way more bugs on it than can be effectively dealt with by a regiment of IG, making it very easy to come out with a fully painted army of 'nids and chalking up their sporty looks to 'rapid evolution in order to adapt to different environments'. You don't even have to come up with a reason for them being anywhere, they're just looking for din dins.

But that's obviously not nearly as fun as coming up with stories for the other, more varied, species in the galaxy.

Tyranids, a splinter fleet breaks off the main fleet and evolves into a separate one.

I?m not sure that counts as fluff, since it's juat a few lines... You ould write about some mayor shitstorms unleashed by your fleet, though.

Orks, definitely. And it's not only easy, it's bloody hilarious.

As I said: exceedingly simple.

This poll is a little broken because individuals will see it and make the decision based on which kind of fluff THEY write. Anybody who writes fluff will write about what comes easy for them. It's hard for me to understand the ideologies of Space Marines, Eldar, and others, but I identify with the Guard. So that's what I write, and I find it very simple.

But based only on what is easiest, I think Tyranids have cornered the market on simplicity.

Necron! Wake up, see which systems are damaged and the inevitable malfunctions to the Monoliths and go kill everything moving thing out there.

Background? Space Marines IMO.
Prose? No idea. I find chaos fairly straight forward but it's opinion really.

I say Orks, you can even say they launched a Waagh because they had nothing better to do. So I'd say their fluff doesn't have to take much effort, if that's what you're looking for.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

I voted Space Marines, but the Tyranid splinter fleet looks pretty easy actually. Way easier than for Eldar in any case!

I like to imagine the Emperor kills so many Orks that he ends up half buried beneath a pile of corpses, with only his head sticking out. A lone grot stumbles across him, and starts choking him.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space.

Space Marines. Lots of background stuff available already that you can use as a basis to start said fluff.

Personally I am very interested in what other factions the Imperium has, and as such I finds it, if not eas,y so at least entertaining to make up fluff about it.

Necrons probably, as all you have to do is say the tombworld's name and what C'tan left them there.

There was this planet that the Imperials had. They raised a regiment of soldiers there. They're the XVII Grognardian Light Infantry, and they specialize in fighting (insert race here)

On the ancient world of Skullduggery, some Adeptus Mechanicus guys landed. But then the ancient-er Necrons of Klumbum rose up and killed them. Awakened, they now kill stuff.

Unbeknownst to the Imperium, Hive Fleet Humbug was closing in on the Reef Stars sector. Noone knows from whence these Tyranids came, but it's assumed that they splintered off from Hive Fleet Kraken.

Once upon a time there were a bunch of Eldar who just really liked leather, whips, and cocaine. They painted their armor purple, put black light lightbulbs in their laser guns, and now they're the Kabal of the Stubbed Toe.

It's all what you make of it. You could write the most intricate chapter history of your custom Space Marines you wanted, or you could go the lazy route and say they're a successor chapter of (Marine chapter) that happens to like painting their armor purple and they really don't like Orks.

I would say its about an even tie between the Space Marines and Imperial Guard. Imperial Guard can literally come from any planet you wish to make up and can have whatever background you want them to have. The same goes for Space Marines.

Grammar Commissar Moom to the rescue! The term would be "Noone knows whence they came," since whence is a word meaning "From where" adding the extra from would make it redundant. Like the Imperium's Department of ATM machines.

Back on topic: IG would be pretty easy. This is regiment ### they're from Cadia, they have a long history of doing battle with [Whoever I'm battling here]
